Hi, everyone. Just popping in to let you know about (and invite you to participate in) a great event in our area this fall at the Fantasy of Flight in Polk City, FL.

Please come for the car show (and lots more) during this 2-day festival on Veteran's Day Weekend November 8 & 9. We'll be running a Jaguar Slalom at the new hangar as well. (If any of you would like to join in the slalom, let me know). Check out the details online at Fantasy of Flight's website. Easy application online for yourself or your entire club...this is going to be a lot of fun.

You can see a bit of the slalom and car show from last year here (I like the part when Kermit Weeks says he always wanted a Jaguar E-type - now his sister is into Ferraris, right??)..

I'm hoping to see you guys there!

Not to be *****ing BT, but now we have a post by a non-subscriber (can't even post up $15 bucks) for the Jaguar Club of Florida.

Sure it may be a fun event but what the hell is this place coming to??? Do these people not realize that this is FChat?

Maybe I should try a test here.....I think I will go on a Jewish message board and post up invitations for a Christmas passion play in December and see what kind of reception I get...:D :D :D :D

PS Ginger:...perhaps you should move this post www.wanker.com...:D

Easy does it, put the taser away! I will gladly have a subscription if you wish. You never know, I have two classic E-Types for now, sold my Austin-Healey last year, but maybe one day, I'll have a pony in my stable? If I'm in the market, maybe I will use this chat arena for some advice.

Seriously, I would not have posted here if I thought it was a violation of list rules, and I surely meant no offense. Please let me explain. I am no stranger to forum etiquette, having belonged to a very active international Jaguar E-Type forum where I have seen and made a lot of posts over the past 8 years. We talk about serious car repair and restoration issues and also other things, like enjoying our cars and attending drives and shows. Some of my Jaguar friends, Like Lou and Jo Cavallero in Orlando, also own and have owned several Ferraris, or other fine cars, planes, boats, and motorcycles.

I've met a lot of very nice Ferrari folks at a lot of shows here in central Florida over the past several years, and some in other states. Many of them are also Jaguar owners. Perhaps that's why I (mistakingly?) formed the opinion that you guys would want to know about this local event. My message was honestly just a friendly note, in the spirit of "car enthusiast" sharing of information, and not meant to offend. This is going to be a fun event, and I am really hoping that Ferraris are among the cars that join us. A lot of other classic/vintage/exotic cars are being considered for the show. We're running a Jaguar club slalom both days, too, but I didn't really expect any Ferraris to join us doing that, but you are welcome to.

    No offense taken.

Your post is of a commercial nature and all you have to do is purchase a sponsorship and you can post at will.

There are a lot of people that make commercial posts that seem to think that they are doing us all a favor by letting us know about thier events when in fact they are soliciting attendence for the purpose of turning a profit.

I too have a couple of friends that own new and classic Jaguar's so based on your position, I guess it would be okay for me to go on to your club site and make commerical posts regarding my events or perhaps business opportunities and that will sit well with all of your paying subscribers right?

Then what is the point of the invite then? It's apparently clear that all you are looking for are people spend thier money
to attend and sit on the sidelines while your club has all of the fun.

Perhaps you should contact Rob Lay and fork over the $500 to $600 for the basic sponsorship and post away to your hearts content before the Mod see's it and this thread disappears.

Boy, Tom, you don't play well with others, do you? Let me try once more to explain. This is NOT a commercial post for me or any Jaguar Club. I don't work for Fantasy of Flight and am not paid for any thing with regard to this event. Me and my club are not making ANY MONEY and I'm not asking you for money. I'm letting you know about a show, as a car enthusast. This was just a post to invite the Ferraris and encouraging participation or spreading the word. I am a participant, will have a Jaguar in the Show, and I'm coordinating the slalom and will have a Jaguar in the slalom. It would be nice to have Ferraris at the CAR SHOW and the entire 2 day event. I wanted to ask you guys to show your Ferraris, bring your family (?), and your friends (?) and have fun. I hope you understand now that there's nothing in it for me or my club other than the fun.

Looks like you've made a knee-jerk assumption without even reading the information on the website. There, you'll see it's for owners of ALL MARQUES to apply and show their cars. The criteria are listed on the site. Sure, you are welcome to race, or if you want, I'll let you ride with me for the fun you'd miss if you sit on the sidelines. ...or you don't have to come over to the slalom at all!

I am simply a car enthusiast who lives in central Florida, enjoy shows and activities, and really can't understand the reasoning behind your hostilities unless you just don't get it. If you want to post to any of my forums and invite us to a show, please do so. I am a subscriber here, and if the moderator has a problem with me letting the Ferrari drivers of Florida know that there is a local show that Ferraris are welcome to join, so be it. I would value another opinion. I've read the recent and past posts here, including yours, and don't think letting folks know about a show is off topic.

Since you are obviously not interested in showing your car, don't come. But perhaps other Ferrari owners will be interested in this event, and bring their cars. Feel free to write me off list or give me a call if you want, anytime. I play well with others.

    Ginger,

If it weren't for my initial post then you wouldn't be a subscriber here now would you? (I should be on commission)

So let me get this straight.....you are not making any money and you aren't asking for any money, but in order to attend this show based on your invite, one would have to pay the following rates to attend:

    Buy Early Save Big!

Buy One Adult Admission and Get One Child’s Admission FREE

Single Day Tickets - $23.00 adult and $12.00 children (ages 6-15)
    2-Day Tickets - $38.00 adult and $19.00 children (ages 6-15)
    Active/Retired Military (I.D. Required) - $15.00 (2-day ticket)
Children 5 and under are free.
    (Prices include sales tax.)

So let me ask you, who exactly are you shilling for here? In your post you are asking for us to attend an event that requires an entry fee. Do you still wish to stick with the position that your post was not commercial in nature?

I play and get along very well thank you very much, its just that I have a hard time understanding why what the motivation is for a Jaguar enthusiast to post up a Jaguar event within a Ferrari community message board. Is the reach within your community not large enough that you feel the need to cross pollenate into that of another brand? I don't beleive that taking the position of being a car enthusiast justifies the right to post non-Ferrari events without being a paid sponsor on this board. As many can attest, we have been down this road many, many times with individuals posting events that are even Ferrari related without being a paid sponsor. Hell, I like car shows and events like everyone else, but there is appropriate etiquette that should be followed whenever popping in on another enthusiast's board.

Now I could see a potential grey area if in the event that you were a regular contributor to this board, but seeing that you have made a total of 12 posts including your most recent, and 7 of them for the purposes of promoting this show going back to the one from last year, that may give you an indication as to why some of us feel the way that we do.

If you want to take out an ad in the newspaper, they will more than likely ask for your credit card to pay for the advertising. Same thing goes here. It cost's money to maintain the servers that house this forum and money to pay for the bandwidth to make it available to you, me and everyone else. To try to twist this around to make me look like the bad guy for pointing this simple fact out to you is a lame attempt to cover your own motivation to get some mileage out of the sheer numbers of people within this community without having to pay just like everyone else has to. Go ahead and take all the shots at me that you want and as many as you want, but it still won't change the fact that you are trying to score a freebie to increase your event turn out. Your posting history in this forum speaks for itself.

So do the right thing and buy a sponsorship and post at will. It will probably be the best money that you ever spent that will allow you to gain not only the support of this community, but also the respect that comes with it.

If you need a crowbar to pry that wallet of yours open, I am sure there are many here that will be happy to offer thier assistance...:D :D :D :D

Perhaps the F-CHAT Police will be leaving the donut shop soon to remove this thread as it should be.

    Hi, again, Tom,

Lots of warm fuzzies there - yep you're playing well with others! I'm not shilling. Not making a dime, for real.
Sure, I'd like to see more cars there and since it's a new event, the word needs to get out so that others will be aware of it. Just because I'm telling you about it doesn't mean there's something in it for me. That's the way YOU think, maybe.

And yes, you get big cudos for the $15 I paid to assuage you - wanted to do the right thing, and I did.
After all, it's chump change and keeps the lights on. Obviously, I don't own a Ferrari and if I did, I would be happy to contribute here more and ask a lot more questions. I don't agree that an individual should pay for a sponsorship level just to post a message about an event in the area. I've been newsletter editor for my club for over 7 years and have been in touch with lots of clubs for other events, letting each other know about shows and tours in our area. In fact, my Jaguar club is non-profit, and we donate the proceeds from our shows to charities, and sometimes the check goes directly to the charity and bypasses the club altogether. We ren't making a dime on this show.

Haven't you seen events that included cars OTHER than your marque? You claim to have friends that own Jaguars. Are all of your events exclusive of each other? How sad. I attend Euro fests and other shows that incorporate all of us quite nicely, like Festivals of Speed, Winter Park Concours d'Elegance, Lake Mirror Classic (my hometown), the Euro Auto Festival in SC, Sebring, Amelia Island, etc. For the life of me, I've never dreamed there was some forbidden boundary of propriety to cross by inviting other marques. Geez!! I see Ferraris on the street with my Jags all the time at shows and rallies. It's not unusual. If you (or another non-Jaguar owner) wants to post an event to my Jaguar forums, go ahead. You will be treated with respect.

And I don't care if you think it's terrible that Fantasy of Flight is charging for entry. Most shows charge for entries, including all the ones I listed above. So, no freebie score attempt on my part. No need to squint your eye and wonder about mel This is just the way I thought I could tell you guys about it. An open forum. I read the other posts and saw that events were being discussed here. Seemed like a good way to find out about shows.

Maybe I'll see ya 'round and we can find out what kind of person you really think I am then. I've read your posts to get a better idea about you, too. Saw that you use a common quote that I've used before....."Life is a journey..." and ends with "What a Ride!" You seem to want to find some horrible flaw with me or an ulterior motive, but there is none. So I'll keep an eye out for the next opportunity to meet. Probably at one of those "cross-pollenated" (oh my!) shows that includes more than Ferraris. I want to believe you aren't as bad as you seem either. I will keep my flame suit on just in case.

    Ginger,

I not here to flame nor are my responses intended to flame you or anyone else for that matter.

It's no secret that event promoters will utilize people like yourself to post their events up on message boards to escape the requirement of being a Paid Sponsor. Seeing that there is a cost related to this event (and I don't see the event promoter putting this show on out of the goodness of his heart otherwise it would be free to attend) its considered a commercial post.

What baffles me is why you are so passionate about getting the word out. Why is it so important to you to let all of us Ferrari owners here know that this event is even going to be held? Call me a skeptic, but there is motivation behind every madness and for someone that never spends any time in this forum other than to promote the same event now for the second time within a year without a doubt can raise a few eyebrows.

It appears to me that your invitation although may not be for personal financial gain, but rather a "See Kermit....see how many people I was able to get to attend your event and how much revenue I generated for you through my efforts?" type of situation. Other than that, I just can't figure out what you are doing here at all.

Now on the other hand, if you would like to offer this community free admission including some other benefits (food, drink, cocktail party, dinner, protected area for the cars, gas cards for fuel to and from the venue) then it wouldn't be a commercial post and I'm sure the moderators here would welcome the invite. Otherwise and even though it may be a great event and a great deal of fun could be had by all, at the end of the day if anyone attended based on your post, then all that has been accomplished is that Kermit's pockets have been stuffed with more cash ( I don't even think Kermit has any room left in his pockets....and if anyone knows him like I do then you know what I'm talking about here)without having to pay as everyone else does.

This isn't even your event although you state that all proceeds raised in yours goes to charity. I see nothing in the website that even remotely says that the entry fees and all money generated through this event is going to be donated or earmarked for a charitable cause. Again....its a commercial post!!!!!

So think about it and all offers will be considered. Better think and post fast before the mod strips the thread completely..;)

    Hi, Paulie,

Yes, it is, with very cool planes. A lot of other things are going on both days, too, besides the museum, including stuff for kids. They are taking apps from all marques, classic, vintage, and exotic... so there's way more than just Jaguars that will show and slalom, and people will be attending for the other activities, too.

It's hard for me to find central Florida slalom (autocross) locations, so we felt fortunate to hold one there in 2002, and wanted to return. We did, and had a blast there last year. Everyone's welcome to apply, and I hope to see you there. I wish it was free, but I don't think it's very much for what they offer.

Ferraris are cool. So are Jaguars.... and Maseratis....and....you get the picture. :)

    That's good to know.

If it is then it will be removed. It wasn't meant to be. Last year, they didn't charge. Wish you guys had come then.

Not the first time I've been called passionate. Got the Spirit Award at Festivals of Speed, and Editor of the Year for 2006 in Jaguar Clubs of North America. Not trying to brag, just explaining that being a cheerleader is kind of my job. I set up tours, rallies, and help with concours and pitch in at almost every event I attend. I'm friends with a lot of car people. You can see the photos I've taken for the Lake Mirror Classic on their website. I'm not on ANYBODY'S payroll either. The only time I've been paid for car related stuff is when I wrote an article about the slalom for Jaguar World Monthly, and the time Cartier paid me to use my car at a party in Miami. No pay for helping with activities in the club. It's against the rules.

I wanted you guys there because I think Ferraris are cool. Okay, ...you are a skeptic. If I had more to contribute, I would say more. Maybe I should hang around and answer the fishing questions and other stuff. I'm a sixth-generation Floridian... and can talk cars or fishing!

Honestly, I didn't mean to spend so much time here. I really just wanted to let you guys know about the show, and where to get more info. Whether or not you apply is totally up to you. I'm pretty sure they would accept your individual cars (pre 1985 is preferred) but you can come as a club, too. If the moderator calls foul (I did check, and saw other show posts here) that's my bad.

Sorry, but it's true. I don't seek fame or fortune. You can ask anyone in the car circles. I do this for fun....for friendship. You are way off base. If you just can't figure it out, you are quite jaded.

What is to be accomplished is not about stuffing anybody's pockets....it's about having fun. We are always looking for things to do at interesting (and hopefully closeby) venues. I'm glad to see that Kermit's place is still operating. I would like to see his sister's Ferraris there, in fact.

I can promise to happily feed you a "track buffet" at my next slalom in the Spring, if you care to attend. After the slalom, we also take a few spins around the road course.

Some people want to show their cars; I like to travel, drive, and show, but my real motivation is to get to slalom my car. It's hard to find a place to do that kind of thing. If the Roar n' Soar event is successful, they may do it again next year. Then I get to slalom my car again. :) Mission accomplished.

The proceeds I refer to are from past Jaguar club activities, not this event. We have done tours where the entire amount was written to the charity. We donate half of our club's annual Concours d'Elegance to charity. Those have nothing to do with the Roar n' Soar. You misunderstood me again!!!!!! You are so hung up on money.

It's okay with me. You know, I haven't even sent the message to many others, and only thought of you guys because of other shows we've done. I was thinking that it would be nice to see Ferraris there. Go figure.

Sorry to have taken up so much bandwidth ... See ya 'round!

wow, this has gotten out of control quickly.

Thanks for the invite ginger I always appreciate hearing about other events with other classic car enthusiasts. Its rare that I meet people in every day life that understand the love of a European sports car, let alone a classic. I'm not going to be able to make the event, but maybe next time.

Yes, I would love to have you slalom with us!! Last year we had a great old Porsche 356 really tearing up the course. Nice guy, and he had lots of fun. I do expect him to come this time, too.

Yes, the love for European sports cars is a sickness. ;-> I used to drive muscle cars, but when I got my first Jaguar in late 1999, I began to understand. It's been a love affair ever since. If I only had a bigger garage....

I'm glad some of you appreciate hearing about events in the area.

So, I do hope to race with a few of you, and see your cars at the show.

    BT is out of town.

Hate to say it but THIS is the reason why the South Florida Toy Run was a commercial post and why this is seen as a commercial post as well. You invite one and the other follows. And before Fred comes with the "but I did not have to pay for the Toy Run..., so it is not commercial"-post, it was sponsored by a dealership, the dealership paid and as such was allowed to tag along and with that it IS a commercial post just as if you had to pay for the event to pay for expenses of putting it together. Besides Alex is pitching a movie deal to Studios with the footage he gets from those runs.

The only difference here is that Ginger comes on here, posts it nice and gets heat for not being a subscriber and immediately subscribes. Our Lambo friend is 'sosick' that he yet has to caugh up the $15 after a full year of posting his for profit events here.

Yep guys, can't allow one and not allow the other.

you both need to cool down your jets in your responses to each other. It is getting personal and there is no need for it.

all you need to do is to use the "!" botton on the right to report the thread to the moderators andsend them a short message on how you feel about this or another thread.

    Ginger:
here is the problem. I understand (having put many events together) that it takes money to put this together. You are doing it because of the hobby that we all share, cars. At the end of the day there probably is no money left from the admissions once everything is paid off. HOWEVER, this board cannot control that and unlike events like the South Florida TOY RALLY (not to be confuse with the Audi Toy Run, oh sorry, the South Florida Toy Run :)) or Cars for the Cure, where EVERY Dollar goes entirely to a Charity published, this does not make it clear what happens with surplus funds. Even as such, you would have to fund the event out of pocket or with secondary sponsors and all admissions would have to be going to a acredited charity.

Thank you for subscribing, once it was brought to your attention. Despite others, you actually show that you care enought about this community to become a member.

All I can say to my friends the moderators here: Its not easy to b green...
