Does anybody have a picture of their 355 with the carbon fiber clutch housing? A good upgrade? I have a couple of cracks in and always seem to be respraying scratches on my fiberglass one so wondering if it's worth the money. Thinking of doing this with a new clutch in about a month. Thanks, -Billy

I guess this would replace P/N 170694 SHIELD (Table 23; #18)? OEM = $894.00 (Ricambi) vs. carbon fiber at $350.00. The CF is really a nice unit! The only problem with the CF unit is that it would cover the beautiful clutch housing cover with "Ferrari" (which you can see) and the "Cavallino Rampante" (which you really can't see unless you're on the ground looking up under rear body work).
Wow!! I just noticed, I think I'm missing a part!! Is that the normal OEM shield??? I assumed that this OEM shield only surrounded the very sides of the clutch housing and was not really visible from the back. Great, if this is true, I'll be joining you purchasing the CF model. My 355CH has one on it. From what I understand it was used on the road cars intermittently. It acts as a heat shield for the bearing inside the horsey cover and as duct work for cooling. By the way that carbon piece is missing the upper attachment bracket #18, tav 23 in 355F1 parts book.
hmmm, to add or not to add? I think the carbon would look cool, would help keep heat down...could possibly collect more dust from the road and direct it up to the clutch housing and engine bay? But even just driving down the road would it help to keep the engine bay cooler by directing more air up?
Jay, the duct doesn't actually push air into the engine compartment the center part of clutch housing sucks air in and it exits out of the holes on the side of the housing. kinda blowing towards the tail pipes.
Are you sure? I see that as the two lower 'ducts' scoop up high speed air from under the car and direct it upwards over the clutch housing and into the engine bay.
My 355F1 had this part, I would assume it was factory, my F355 doesn't have it. Personally I think it looks better without it.
WRONG!! It is designed for both cooling and insulation......it draws air in from the bottom side parts and circulates air around the clutch cover for cooling(on CH's the clutch cover has holes drilled to further cool the clutch....even the horse cover at bearing is drilled for bearing ventilation). Mine has reflective insulation to insulate from radiated heat from muffler which is directly above the clutch cover.
It does overheat on street cars. Thats why it was used on challenge cars. The amount of heat generated while sitting in traffic will overheat the clutch seals and assembly. Just call your local dealer for their opinion.
I don't know if I'll put the C.F. piece on or not, but in addition to to the COOLING and INSULATION factors it also PROTECTS the metal housing itself. The multiple scrapes and two cracks in my fiberglass piece can attest to it. Or, I just may be a wreckless driver too! I also think it looks better from behind with it on. I have not had any overheating issues and my clutch has been in for 22K miles so far. Also, I avoid 'sitting-in-traffic' situaitons as much as possible. -Billy Image Unavailable, Please Login
