http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=559029&i=800 check this out. now you know why those of us living in london (or geneva) act jaded about spotting exotics....
Yeah seen that kinda thing there, but that was back before the Arabs were so wealthy, or at least before they started visiting Harrods. Awesome shop though.
Nearly ridiculous that, judging by the numberplates, you could think you'd be somewhere in the Middle East...
It's crazy how the Veyron makes everything else look so mundane. That, and the fact that even without the Veyron, a Lamborghini Murcielago was normal in that crowd. Crazy.
I'm just as enthralled with the commentary with the pictures as I am with the images. Thank you for the link.
I guess the guy in the Veyron was doing his very best to attract attention to his car and not himself, I didn't know mirrored/super tinted windows were legal in England. I know here in the states, even with an eye problem and a prescription you'll get pulled over and harassed all the time for having windows even half that dark.
But, 1: CLS Butcher 2: Range Stormer (wasnt it a concept, although looks like fake) 3: Guy driving RR Drophead why?
1. Generally acknolwedged around London to be a fool and worse still, it isn't even a proper convertible. 2. It was a concept until a rich Arab prince said, "Make me one!" so they did! It is a one-off and acutally looks very well put together close up! 3. Why indeed!
Is this why there isn't a Spotters thread in the UK section? It would have to be a thousands pages long.
because they can... similar scenes in geneva all summer long. i think the arabs must go into the dealers and say 'what is the most expensive car you make?' the answer is given, and then they ask 'how can i make it more expensive?' then the dealer says, how about a color we dont offer, with leather we dont offer, and make it a drop head when we dont make it, and have a nuclear powered stereo?sir.? and then they say 'oh yes, why not. make it so, i will pick it up on friday'. thats how we end up with a lime green gallardo spider with ostrich seats, or the chrome veyron, or my personal favorite - the matte military green drop head rolls.... classic cases of more money than taste... but i do like the slr's
The worst of them all imho. I mean, I could understand if there was some guy around with more money than taste, that's pretty common. But there has to be somewhere in a tuning shop a *designer* with at least a bit of education in styling and beauty who said "oh I have an idea for a new front for the CLS, let's do it like that, it looks SO good", and THAT is the guy I don't understand!
Besides the owners being filthy rich and incredibly tasteless, the statement above summarizes some of my deepest wanders. And these guys are paid wages right, with real money, with overblown, rich oil king budgets, they ask and collect without hesitation from the customers.. dang..
little past halfway down the page is a rear pic of an aluminum colored 599GTB. Wonder if this is Todt's car, listed in another post here on Fchat? I believe it's under the 599 threads.
Yes an RT 12 and a 3.8L not the 3.6L car. The whole scene there; looks like feeding time at the ZOO... CH
HA! Good point...missed that one. Don't remember if Todt's car was a 599 or 612, but the thread with it seemed to indicate a rather unusual paint job, similar to the one in the Harrod's lineup.
The title of the thread said "average day" at Harrods. The pics look like the gathering was planned. It can't be like that on an "average" day can it?
