Well, the rev-limiter certainly works! Even in 6th gear. Nice time even with one missed shift. That gear shifter moves around quite a bit when the engine and drive train gets loaded.

It would be better to compare a similarily tuned ZR1 to the ACR Viper. I think the story would then be different.

To make things interesting, why not compare a ZR-1 with wing and splitter, R-compound tires, and coilovers to an ACR Viper with forced induction? Does that make both cars similarly tuned?

Stock is stock. We can play the "equip them the same and we'll see" all day long. Doesn't the 430 Scud have a lot of stuff missing - carpeting and such? So when it beats a Z06 (for example) do we all say "oh yeah? well.... just take all that stuff off the Z06 and THEN we'll see who wins!"... no, of course not. What matters is how they come from the factory. The Viper ACR has adjustable suspension. It has good tires. It has good aero and a working rear wing. Do we need to make sure those things are on any other car we would compare it to? Of course not - it's silly to think so. Stock is stock, modified is modified. All cars come with different equipment.. ACR buyers know what the car is, as do ZR1 owners. Wanting to add asterisks to the performance results with qualifications like "yes but it doesnt have carpeting in the trunk" is as silly as putting a similiar footnote on the Z06 making sure buyers know that it has a thinner windshield, titanium exhaust and reduced/removed much of the sound deadening and heat resistant padding.

Who cares?

Stock vs. stock is all that matters. If the cars are stock, that's all that counts.

 

Drive it to the track, ala SCCA Solo Racing.

Showroom street stock vs showroom street stock, or stock meant for racing vs stock meant for racing would be a fair comparison. As I understand it, the ACR Viper is intended for club racing, its not really "stock" as one would buy for use on the street albeit stock in its racing form. If the Corvette is a similar "ready for the track" car, then it is a fair comparison. If not, then no.

It would be like trying to compare a stock F430 coupe to a F430 Scuderia. Both stock in your definition, but in different classes, so not a fair comparison.

I do not think the two cars compared in this specific test were equal in preparation. If that is true, it is not a fair comparison. If they were both track ready, then OK the Viper wins.

 

If you open the comparison to modifications for either car, it becomes a real mess. If the ZR1 can get track prep mods to be more closely set up against the ACR, why can't the ACR get forced induction like the ZR1?
