Michael Schumacher has been caught speeding on a highway near his German hometown of Kerpen, according to reports in Italy and Germany.

The former champion was fined 75 Euros and docked three points on his driving license, the Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport said.

Schumacher was at the wheel of an Audi Cabriolet, but the precise speed of his infraction is not known.

Police, however, confirmed that he was stopped for speeding in a 100kmh zone. German media reports suggest he was caught at 140kmh.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Schumacher would automatically have lost his license if his offence was in excess of 146kmh.

"I'm really sorry, it is out of character for me. Speeding is for the race tracks only," he is quoted as saying by the German newspaper Bild.

LoL...why can't he just come out of retirement? ;)

To Grnd Lk Natv and everyone here about to cast stones - I want you to admit you have NEVER EVER gone outrageously fast on a public road. Outrageously fast is defined in this case as fast enough to qualify for an escorted ride by your local law enforcement. This is a car enthusiast site, and more to the point a FERRARI enthusiast site. One factor that all of us have in common is a love of speed. We all agree there is a time and place to properly speed, but I'll bet my bottom dollar EVERYONE HERE has done it, and probably more than once. Michael just got caught. Ooooops oh well life goes on.

    A lie.

Remember when he (and his family!) was late for a plane and he asked the cab driver to move aside? He set a new record in traffic. The cab driver told the story to the press and Germany's politicians demanded that MS be penalized, which he wasn't. MS has been speeding on public roads. And I don't mean a few miles over the limit, but massive over the limit. Not that I have much of an issue with that, but he shouldn't lie about it.

It is also very dangerous to have senior's, and random immigrant women driving 50 mph in the fast lane as well. ;)

Yep and that choice of car, even if just borrowed proves once and for all he is not coming back to F1.

Nobody could drive one of those and still be up for F1!

Did a few of you miss the implication of who do you think you are Nigel Mansell? There was a store many years ago when Ayrton Senna was stopped for speeding in the U.K. and when he was stopped the officer said to him who do you think you are Nigel Mansell. The officer did not recognize Ayrton Senna. LOL.

    Thanks

Or maybe some choose to do the job they are charged with doing without being dazzled by celebrity? We all hate speeding tickets, but the rational side of any human knows they serve an important purpose.

I wouldn't have written him a ticket, because I'd be too busy eating a donut or something.

What are donuts called in German? Donüts?

Are you refering to all Policeman, OR just those in Germany??

If refering to German Policeman - BWAAAAAAHAAAAHAAAHAAA!

Yeah! It Called - NOT GETTING CAUGHT!

AMEN! I hate it when I am going down the road and some old Fart or Immigrant man or woman pulls out right or over in front of you at a much slower speed. That should be cause for ticket for them. <UNSAFE DRIVING PRACTICES>

LUCA - Um! Michael, You are still on our payroll and you have now been fined for driving that P.O.S.. Now get in that old Fiat Panda right now. You are to drive that for 1 month. And here it is --
