Any ideas? I know zilch about P-cars. Is this a good value for this kind of car? Normally I can get a feel for prices, but since this thing has some upgrades, I have no idea.

Any ideas on maintenance? This would be a daily driver. Thanks in advance, guys.

For $35,000 this car is a great value.

A/C: Front, Cruise Control, Navigation System, Power Locks, Power Steering, Remote Keyless Entry, Bucket Seats, Leather Interior, Airbag: Driver, Airbag: Passenger, Airbag: Side, Alarm, Anti-Lock Brakes, Fog Lights, Cassette Radio, CD Changer, Premium Sound, Power Windows, Rear Window Defroster, Tinted Glass, Alloy Wheels, Sunroof/Moonroof

This car has a sticker value of $92,000 and I have the original sticker. Regarding the photographs the car was photographed in my photography studio here in Sarasota. These are not factory images! It has the Advanced Technics Package as well as the Aerokit Package and the Design Package from the factory, rear tail, ground effects, SS exhaust, aluminum console, full leather package with the Porsche crest on the seats, navigation. It features 18" TurboLook wheels, Porsche Stablility Management, all the toys!

Condition: This car is immaculate, tight and fast! It only has 25,000 babied miles. Newer tires. You have to see and drive it to appreciate it. All maintanance is up to date. This car is a MUST SEE! Why pay for new when you can save tens of thousands and still have a like new car!

Nice car.........problem is 996's are falling faster in price faster than keys falling from a Lear jet........especially the pre 2002 models......of which this car is one obviously. It has the Aerokit ($9K option), full leather ($5K option) and the best wheels.......which is a huge plus.

I'd say he is at the right retail number.......perform a PPI and go from there.........

Looks like its got all the right extras on it and its a good color combo. Have a PPI done at Suncoast (talk to Chad). If it checks out and there is no accident history or costly issues like the rear main seal, I would say 32-33k would be a good deal. That said, I don't think 35k is out of line for a great example with all the options this one has.

Do you think waiting a few months is going to make much difference? What would someone pay for this? 31? 32? Are these expensive vehicles to operate? I would think not outside of tires, etc.

I cant see waiting a few months effecting the prices much. The 05 (new model) has been out for quite a bit so the prices have taken the model change hit already. Nice loaded examples should command higher values than average cars. The 996 is a reliable car with relatively few reoccurring issues aside from the rear main oil leak, and the airbag light that comes on often due to a bad design of the switch in the seatbelt retractor. I have owned a few of them from 99-04 and never had any unusual issues or costs aside from those couple things.

All figures in CAD $$$ at my dealer cost......

    Replace rear main seal......$800
    Tires........$700
    Brake pads and rotors.......$1,600
    Clutch replacement.......$1,500
    Major service.....$1,200
Replacement engine from wrecker........$7-10,0000 (the liners in these engines can shift and the intermediate shafts can also fail.......it is cheaper to buy a used engine)

I would not wait and would look seriosuly at this car as it has everything that makes it resaleable down the road. Just saying that prices are not going up.

I just sold one because everything started to fall apart. I would say it is an average fun car. I liked the smallness until I got tired of the smallness. Needs more power, more torque, better stereo. Everything else was just fine. My personal opinion, I would not by another. I picked up a Z06 for my daily driver, a lot more fun, easier and cheaper to fix, gobs more torque and better stock stereo.

Had one, very reliable, great looking but slow,slow,slow... If you are used to something quick, you will be very disappointed.

It doesn't feel fast, neither does the Boxster. It just doesn't have that "coming on the cam" feel... Nice disposable daily driver though. Interiors are made by TYCO and fit by mickey mouse...at least on the 99's and '00's... Exhaust note can put you to sleep... Car looks great with the aerokit, though...

This car is prob the best example of a 996 but even still, at that price range their are cars out there that are faster, and cheaper to operate. If neither of these matter to you, then its a great deal!

Thing is I never considered a Pcar before. Just caught this and it looked interesting. I do want something fairly quick if I'm buying a sports car. A used C6 Z-06 is going to run at least $49k, I've been watching out for those and that's the cheapest I could find. I do not like the design of the C5 at all, esp. the Z06 because of the funny back window.

    rant/on

I know ZERO about Porsches. Just sick of dealing with the idiot car dealers around here. I was treated so rudely at Sarasota Acura a few weeks back (I have a TL under lease now and have owned an NSX as well) I'm pretty convinced to buy USED and NOT from a DEALER again. Screw them.

It's my opinion that all dealers and their salespeople are LIARS and I will do better with a private seller. rant/off

    This seemed well-cared for.

I know you really want a viper. Id still go that route, there a timeless car IMO. For 40K you can get a pretty nice GTS as well.

This is my opinion, the C6 looks like it was designed buy the same guy who did the cobalt. The C5 is sexy, and the back window on the Z06 is what makes it even cooler.

    Don't buy a clown shoe.

    Get an 03 or 04 Z06!

Go for the Viper - you know you want to :)

Seriously, in Florida with your glass-smooth roads, it's made for a car like the Viper. Sure, you can get a C5Z06 but you're settling for a car that's slower and doesn't handle as well, and there is galaxies worth of distance in looks between the two - a Viper will get stared at, a C5 is utterly forgettable.

I still would love a Viper, but two things: 1) I need a daily car that's not too uncomfortable and 2) it rains here a LOT in the summer (huge puddles of water, very slippery), which is not the kind of situation I want to be in with a 400+ hp car with no traction control. LOL. I also am in a shirt and tie most of the time and need a lot of cold blowing air in the summer. Let's take into account the price of gas, etc etc.

Thing is I have to replace that Acura with something that works for a commercial Realtor like me. A Viper would be too over the top to pull up to listing appts with.

I'm looking at everything now, although I think I'm pretty sure I want a used car.

    YES.

A monkey can get asking price for a car when the weather's cooperating.

Wait 'til rainy season hits. Follow the ad, get VIN and so forth, then, pick a dry day.

In the meantime, brush up on your Porschology.

Talked to the seller. Nice guy, I know where his business is. 3rd owner, never had a problem with it, bought it in 05 with 13k miles, about to turn over to 26k. Keeps it out of the rain and doesn't object to a PPI, whoever I want to conduct it. Says the navi system is factory (a minus for me). I would probably yank it - need to look into the price for that. Asked for pics, he suggested I come and see it instead, which I may do tomorrow if the day doesn't get too jammed up. That's it so far.

My GF loves it from the pics. Oh boy.

Viper would be a weekend car. Keep in mind this is a daily car that I have to conduct fairly mundane business in.

I've had 15 911's and always like them. There are faster cars but the Pcar is great as a DD. I have a turbo that has 610HP and I still think the basic 2WD Carrera is my favorite as a daily driver. Nimble, great brakes and road feel. I had a C6Z06 and it was indeed crazy fast but I hated the car. I like the Vipers better but wouldn't want to drive one everyday in business attire. Good luck. Lots of great cars out there.

You cannot yank the navigation system. Leave it there and ignore it. It is not worth the $$$ to do it.........

If you need to do business with it as well, how about an 02-03 Maserati? The Coupes and even Spyders are now in the mid 30ks-low 40ks range. Seems to be a lot of car for that money, and with a Tubi they sound great.
