According to this months edition of Hemming's " Sport & Exotic", there are only 3-959s in the country. Ralph Kepner in Arizona, Bill Gates and Ralph Lauren. It was probably Lauren's car you spotted. I thought he had moved all his cars out west but I guess not all of them.

Awesome Spot. The 959 is one of my all time favorites, I have never had the pleasure of seeing one in person, hopefully one day.

As far as I can remember, I've only ever seen one 959 in person. And it was on a trailer. At a show.

What a fantastic spot to see one on the road. Congratulations.

That's simply not true. There's a red 959 sitting in Nick Soprano's shop in White Plains that was (or might still be) owned by Bobby Bonilla, ex baseball player. Bobby has/had quite the collection actually- 300SL Gullwing, 250 GT California, 959, etc..

I was just about to mention that car. I drove over there one day when it was closed and saw the car through the window. The shop is a tiny place, when my friend and I tried to find it we drove by it the first time. There were a couple of beautiful Ferraris there too.

I saw a silver one on Scottsdale Rd. back when I was in college, around five years ago. Car was silver and license was "Real959", or something to that effect. I followed it for five minutes or so, very cool!

About 17 years ago I was in Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada) with my parents they were at a conference and I was on my own at the hotel, crossed the street to some car plaza to see what was there to check out one shop had a small showroom up front with a few chairs and rims for sale on a display, looked through an open door to the mechanical shop, saw a silver 959 under a car cover! Just about wet myself, asked the mechanic if I could see that car, just lift the cover for me, he asked me to leave. ; (

I did meet someone there though in the Calgary, Alberta car scene, at the time he was in the cell phone business, and met him once in Calgary driving his friends NSX, now Kulu has his own shop http://www.kulumotorcar.com/main.asp

And the rest they say is history ; )

    Other note:

Doesn't Michael Dell of Dell Computers own one? (Kept in Europe)

    Chris

Yes, that was Ralph Laurens 959. I've seen it out and about a couple times this summer. He had it flatbedded out as I saw it coming out to or at least from a service call.

How have the selling prices for these cars been holding up? Recently, I was looking at historic $ for 959 auction sales and they've been all over the map. Are values for significant Porsche's that fickle?

Nope, I know the owner, he is local, I have been in the car on PPIR in Colorado Springs, he has quite a nice collection of Porsches (904, 906, 908 and even a GT1).

Yeah, there are way more than 3 in the States. I remember seeing a silver one driving back from Crystal Cove in Newport Beach back in '04. There was a red one that was owned by a customer of Champion Porsche in Pompano Beach, FL. I saw that car there quite a few times (it was even on display at their unveiling of the then-new Boxster in Jan '97) and this was well before they were legal here.

GT1? Isn't that the monster that they put holy water in the windshield washer reservoir? Evil incarnate, that one...
