Anyone else here like to collect F1 team shirts? I have a few good ones I'd be happy to post photos of if anyone else is interested. Scott
Grrrr - the batteries in my camera are useless. Give me a day or two to get some pix posted. A preveiw - most of my collection is various team polo shirts. I decided I wanted to buy shirts I could actually wear. How often can you go somewhere & wear a team crew shirt with all the logos? I do have a couple of team crew shirts - one of them rather old. I also have a gorgeous team fleece that is one of the two gems in my collection. Will post some pix three or four at a time, and of course - save the best for last. Hope there is more than just one person interested... Forza!!! Scott
I bought this in 1980 or 1981 at the Ceasars Palace Grand Prix in Las Vegas. You still had access to the pits and I got this from one of the Brabham crew. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I like that Brabham shirt. Brabham is one I'd love to have in my collection. OK - here is the first sampling of some of the shirts in my collection. First we have two Jordan polo shirts. One celebrating Jordan's 200th race and Fisichella's victory in Brazil. The second in celebration of Jordan's 10th year in F1. Next is one of my Minardi crew shirts - I believe this one is from '97. That's it for round one - more to come if y'all would like. I have all of the official team issue items from Ferrari 1998-2007 email me for a list. Prices are $175 - $2000 depending upon what it is...cap, jacket, t-shirt, etc. Morry
I have a closet jammed full of the Ferrari Tommy Hilfiger stuff, I use for most public appearances...... Morry hooked me up with some FILA stuff also....th new Puma is okay but .......... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I do like the Puma shoes the best, I have stocked up on Speedcats.........although NIKE made some nice ones too, back in the day.... Thanks for posting your shirts!
Uh - Morry - you are hereby disqualified since you would qualify as a professional. I'll try and post some more pics tonight - was originally underwhelmed by the lack of responses from anybody. Scott
I REALLY like that shirt. Wanna trade? I have a few--I'll do photos later, but I have: '94 Williams (with Senna embroidery) '95 Benetton (the good one, with the white bottom and blue top/Renault) Stewart (not sure which season) Ferrari (early/mid 90s Cerrutti with red shoulders and white body, Shell, Marlboro) I also bought one of those solid blue Renault F1 crew rep at Indy. It's actually really nice with full embroidery on it. On top of that, I ordered a funky-looking Renault F1 sport shirt a few years ago that really looks like a pajama top. Do you guys ever wear them? I don't get too many opportunities, and I don't want them to fade too much. But I love to wear them out randomly.
I actually have a pretty rare one from the last days of Team Lotus, a Tommy Hilfiger shirt and sadly you can turn it inside out and see where they covered the Lotus logo crest emblems to add Castrol Oil patches.... It was used as the crewman's name was in the collar.. That would have been one of the last seasons? It has a matching hat, split down the middle front to back, one side yellow one side green.. And there was retail Hilfiger foul weather jacket of a similar vintage I bought it here in Houston the zipper tab has a lexan hang tag on it thats a map of Monaco.....
Jack, As you see from my pics I DO wear them but you can count on the deterioration of the bright colors as you mention from washing and sun fade, so I tend to reuse one, or two sets as I have "Non tobacco" for kid's events..over and over. I have some winter testing coats that are new....as it rarely gets cold here and the one event I needed them they were back at the Hotel in New Orleans!!! You can watch the "Ferrari red" run down the bathtub as you wash them in Woolite..... So they tend to sort into "front hanger" and "never used" catagories of the closet...
Haha--I keep mine in a garment bag. Meanwhile, my suit is uncovered and the shoulders are dusty. But I remember seeing a guy at one of the races and his shirt was faded out, which is when it dawned on me to be a little more cautious.
They say the plastic dry cleaning bags are not good, my fur coats use a cloth cover..... They eventually do start to go...I even had a local tailer flip a collar over to get a few more seasons! Morry does indeed have most of the older Ferrari years too, and I have done a lot with JMJ Automobilia in JUpiter FL as Marie there remembers me when she sees XL and XXL......some of the Cerruti stuff was increadibly short 'cut"..LOL!
I suppose dry cleaning but I was always afraid of what that might do to the various patches, so I just gently hand wash and iron... Pretending I'm a lonely crewman, a long way from home.....wait a minute!......
Another reason why my collection didn't grow more. I'm 6'2 and every time I saw a shirt I liked, it was racer-sized! Are any of these shirts even worth much these days?
well since you brought it up..... I collect Ferrari team gear, from shirts, hats to team bags. I have about 15 team coats, and around 20 team shirts, mostly tobacco, and a few pieces of Ferrari Team luggage, but I have not been buying the Fila/Puma as much as I did the Cerruti, Hugo Boss and Hilfilger. I really like the early shirts that have the team members name embroidered into the shirt, my Nigel Stepney's are my favorites, of course! The early team shirts and jackets were for team issue, and for the most part were EXTREMELY hard to get, and therefore they tend to command a premium. If you did not know Morry or Paolo Tron in Italy, you just could not get the early clothing or team gear. Morry is probably the best source in the world right now and a great person to do business with. I am not buying as much contemporary clothing because the official team replica wear is very close and very reasonable, and to me, not as exciting. The irony is, the current authentic team gear has become very difficult to obtain again and once again it commands a very large premium. I must admit I have worn most of my team gear... Morry is the expert on this, but it seems like ebay has found all the early team gear and it is extremely rare that I find true Ferrari Team Clothing that is valuable on ebay anymore. I have a 1998 Team jacket that is by far my favorite, not to continue to advertise for Morry, but he literally bought it off an individual that was wearing it because he knew I wanted that particular coat. I have looked for 5 years for another one and I only know of one other in the US. MORRY I NEED ANOTHER FERRARI TEAM SHORT JACKET! (He has been looking for about 3 years). Buy what you like, wear it and enjoy it, and dont buy the cheap hong kong replicas, because we will laugh at you! (its like wearing a toupe', you are not fooling anyone!)
LOL, i'm 300+, 6'4", and I have 38" arms. There is NOTHING in F1 I can fit into. Car OR clothing. But, when I was doing pro photography and traveling to events, I did amass quite a T-shirt collection. Most I cannot wear, but most I got for free (free Press give-aways). They are in air-tight plastic bags currently. My fav is a Segafredo (sp?) Toleman Senna shirt, Detroit 1984. Problem is it's a 'European large', which is about like an 'American small'.
Is this anything like the Lotus shirt you're talking about? I've got one that sounds a lot like that. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here are a couple of more from my collection. Remember I said most of my shirts are polos - as I preferred to go after shirts I could actually wear. I do have a few crew shirts - two I've posted already - two still yet to come! Today I present my favorite Minardi polo shirt. Not sure what year this is from. Minardi stuff rom the Stoddart years are a dime a dozen on eBay, but I've never seen another one like this one with the slightly older logo included. Then we have my '94 Benetton Renault shirt - with Mild Seven logos. This shirt is still new, with tag and is one of my favorites. And lastly tonight - we have a '94 Ferrari Cerruti polo shirt. Of the suppliers Ferrari has used over the years - Fila (early days and more recently), Cerruti, Hilfiger, & Puma - what is the general feeling as to which supplier made the best quality stuff (Morry - your input would certainly be welcome here)? Of the pieces I own - the Hilfiger item seems to be the best quality craftsmanship - but that's just my opinion based on the very few items I own. Next will be the three gems in my collection.
