    Jeez....Anyone else get the feeling FChat will once again have to be explaining the misunderstanding of people assuming the F60 is a real car.

    Think back to the Enzo test mule. It was a mix of 348/355 stretched and flat out odd looking. This mule is equally as odd. A very good indicator this is the Enzo successor mule. It's not about the body, it's what the body is hiding underneath.

    Does anyone know how or why development or test cars came to be known as "mules" in the automotive industry?

    Mule= 1/2 Horse 1/2 Donkey

    F70= 1/2 new car 1/2 old car?

    As per Wikipedia;
    A development mule or a test mule in the automotive industry is a vehicle equipped with experimental or prototype components for testing. Automakers evaluate aspects of vehicles before a full pre-production car is built to find problems. Mule cars are drivable and may come after concept cars that sometimes lack critical mechanical components.

    Mules are often heavily altered and the exteriors may be disguised as current production vehicles or as completely different models. They are most often used very heavily during testing and are scrapped.

    Mules are a hybrid! More intelligent and athletic than a horse. The cars are therefore hybrid taking the best of both models to make one new car.

    good point on it being written in English... also, I am pretty sure they wouldn't just write ALL of the pertinent info down in one memo. i mean it reads like a laundry list of what we would all dream to know... on one document. Plus, it makes no sense that the letter is addressed to someone who clearly doesn't know anything about the details of the project other than there is a project... so they break down the basics, power, aspiration, weight, price, transmission, code names for the tranny and the project etc... and they also throw in the new emission regulations in DETAIL. That just doesn't make sense to me... the emissions break down makes me call foul play. If someone was so lay to the point to where they didn't know about the aspiration of the project or the minute details or price point, what is the point of mentioning the actual emissions measurements... you would just say that it will comply with "EURO V REGS" or something to that effect...

    that or I am just stupid :)

    cool read anyways!

    I believe it is because a Mule is generally used as a work animal and isn't very nice to present. A Horse is a beautiful animal and although used for work is most of the time used for pleasure. A Mule is strictly used for work. The "mule" test vehicle is only used for work, or testing and isn't very presentable :)

    That is my guess anyway.

    I hear ya but that Enzo test car was way weirder looking than this new one. It was obvious that it was not a 348 or 355. This car almost looks like a standard 430 to me.
