The Mondial t is a beautiful car. It could use a bit more power though.

Because someone wadded up the first one, and I couldn't afford a 355 then.

Lets park it next to a Countach or how about we hit up the track and line it up against a buick GN in the 1/4mile. Doubtful it would have been at the top of the food chain back then :D

What was the 288GTO and F40?.

    1) the 308/328 for the V8;and
    2) theTestarossa for the 12 cylinder.

Everyone wanted one in part because of TV and movies at the time. And Ferrari ramped up to meet demand. Mass production reduces the struggles of a carmaker/racing company. Could be the 348 (BabyTR) did more contributing to bottom line margin-wise though as it came out around the time used Ferraris were selling like Florentine art pieces. But for the V8s it does not seem as iconic as a 308/328.

Even the lowly Porsche 928 S4 tended to slaughter the Countach in US speed trials back in the day. If I remember - the Road & Track top speed test had the Countach in the hi 150's to low 160's, the 928 hit 171, and the Testarossa did a pleasant 186.

That said - I certainly miss my 928 S4, but would sure enjoy owning a Countach & would like to take a Testarossa for a spin.

    Just to be clear.

The 308/328 is timeless almost thirty years later. As for worst Ferrari, the kinks always seem to get worked out so that what's left is very sorted and very lovely. Even on those that cars that some think are awkward or gutless. The proof is in the smiles.

Obviously you have no clue about Ferraris and their purpose. Of course, in a 1/4 mile, there are plenty of cars that are faster than Ferraris, but Ferraris are built for high speed performance, not the 1/4, so you are comparing apples to oranges. It is a known fact that the TR was the fastest (i.e., 180mph +) production car in the world for a decade. Second, the TR is the most recognized Ferrari in the world.

So lets take your contest on the salt flats against any vehicle from that period. Confident "it would have been at the top food chain back then".

Lastly, IMVHO, there are no worst Ferraris because even if one allegedly is at the bottom of the food chain, each Ferrari has it's special features that keeps them from being worst. Comparing a TR to a Mustang, I get the feeling you own a Mustang and some TR blew past you from 2nd to 3rd degree while passing 100mph like, well, you know the rest.

These are small production run cars (especially in the case of the 288). Nearly anyone would know that the answer would not be these models.

I remember being in junior high when the Boxer was the fastest road legal car in the world. Then we moved into the 80's and the TR ruled, even with the controversial strakes. In those times, my buddies and I were rooting for the Lamborghini. I distinctly remember when the 348 came out and it was almost universally panned for it's bland styling, and frankly I hated it. At the time everything was compared to the 308 (even the C4 Corvette styling analysis in Road & Track in 1983).

It's funny how styling changes. In hindsight the 348 was a little ahead of its time (I have one now and I think in the flesh it looks amazing). The TR is awe inspiring too, and I think always will be. Obviously 308's are timeless.

The new Cal Spider to me looks like crap, but I bet 15 years from now I'll love it. Rambling point is that Ferrari walks a thin line with the looks of its cars. 99% of their cars have stood the test of time (and by that I mean they're not cartoonish, which sometimes is still cool, just not timeless). What other automaker can claim that?

Although some of those cars were panned by the press and public when they were introduced they are now quickly becoming classics. I can't imagine there really being a "worst" Ferrari.

There have been a few cars that helped Ferrari survive financially : 250GTE, 246, 308/328, TR/512.
    All sold in vast numbers.

while all of those cars would be correct answers, the 308 and TR really helped Ferrari out in the 80s, with Magnum PI and Miami Vice. When people saw those cars the thought they were the coolest thing, and so people wanted to be seen driving them. So they sold in big numbers and helped turn Ferrari into what we know it today.
But then I could be totally wrong. :)

Looks beautiful to me. I don't get all of the criticism, despite the "raw" ride at speed. (& buggy electronics our cars share)

What it lacks in oompf! (especially the U.S. version) it makes up for in handling. The long wheelbase and transverse engine mounting definitely gave the car some great road manners in the twisties.

I would pluck off my pinky toes with garden shears to own a 348, a Mondial or any other Ferrari. And whoever said the 612 obviously hasn't driven one. As someone else said, it's like picking out the "ugliest" super model.

The worst Ferrari ever made is the one I dont own yet...

I would be more than happy to take any Ferrari that any of you owners have and who cant deal with having the worst one ever made. :)

I think that the 348 gets a bad rap simply because it followed one of the most beautiful shapes to come from Ferrari in the 308/328. Add that to a minimal hp bump from the move to 3.2 to 3.4 liters and it didnt matter what the shape was - it was going to be less than what it followed.

I would be more than happy to own one.

I have kept my 348 for many years and in my eyes it is anything but "worst". In the meantime I have bought and sold several 355's. 348 has more soul. It is slow and has quirks but they are fine with me - car feels great. I have no idea what is the "worst" Ferrari ever made - haven't owned it yet

    Dear Ferraristi,

    No.....you are correct.

With the TR, Ferrari books mention that how it was such an important "financial" vehicle for them. They had put allot of effort into the car an needed it to be successful.

I find the TR the bridge between the completely hand-made cars to the mass production 355 and onwards.

    BTW,

Ugly Ferrari?....well, I wouldn't say ugly but I don't like the 360 and onwards. The last classic Ferrari shape is the 355....beautiful car but not as insane looking like my TR !

Every time I mention I will sell the Mondial T the neighbors, and family say "that one looks like a Ferrari...the 456, eh"

Have to admit, that as I see it drive away [wife in it or something], it just gets better and better to see. Probably keep it for life....

Did your Mondial t have any of the issues of the 348 tb and ts mentioned in this thread?
