I am new to F1 so perhaps a silly question. I saw Varsha and Machett in the studio on the SpeedTV report. They are not broadcasting live from the track, ie Peter Windsor is at the track and everyone else is in the studio in the US?

Yes, you are new. They use the fastest plane known to man.

I thought it was the Star Trek transporter?

Matchett, Varsha and Hobbs watch the race from a studio in Charlotte. From what I understand, Matchett flies to the US from France (where he now lives) for each broadcast. odd.

The Speed broadcast team watch the race from the world feed in a studio in NC, I think it is. Windsor is the only one actually there. It was a different story for the USGP however because the Speed broadcast was used as the world feed. As far as I know that's the only race they were there for in recent history. I think when ESPN was doing the races they were there.

I can testify that they were in fact at LeMans for the 24 hour race a couple years ago because we talked to them outside the Audi hospitality "home". This year, David Hobbs was having dinner at the same restaurant as us in LeMans after the race. Additionally, we've encountered them at other locations.

As far as F1 goes, these guys are Charlotte, except for Peter Windsor, who is live at the event. Unless, he is computer generated, if so, he sure is realistic.

I know they were always at Indy because I had drinks with them more than a couple times, I think.

Ron, I'll be at the Homewood Suites Thursday night. 1st stop St. Elmo's. After the last stay I like it better than the Omni.

OK, so when Peter Windsor says "back to you in the studio" he is not kidding!

The FIA would charge so much to get FIA press credentials, that its not worth all of them being there. They can get them in the host country as they are the ones who are carry the broadcast... but thru all the rest of the races they are in the studio... Windsor is live at the race.....

How many times do we have to tell you--that wasn't Steve Matchett, it was Andreas!
