Hi guys, just looking for advice from the guys who drive these cars everyday. What do you prefer and why? I like the idea of the F1 gearbox but I'm not sure if there would be times I'd miss the good old fashioned way. Comments?

Everyone has their own opinion on this and its what works best for you. Personally, I choose the F1 but you will get the next response saying Manual. I thought the F1 was great in the 360 and now its improved in the 430.

Drive both and then decide. I had an F-1 in a 2005 F-430. I waited over 3 years to be able to order a manual tranny. Great F-1 but for me, I always missed the three pedal drives.

    agree strongly!

the F1 is drives awesome.. but im old school and prefer the raw power of a manual clutch.

Three pedal! Three pedal! Three pedal! Got mine a month ago and I had to wait longer for it as well (compared to F-1) but well worth it IMO.

Like was said earlier, you'll get a dozen different opinions when you ask a question like this... but the only opinion that matters is yours.

    Drive both and then decide.

I had an F1 in my 360 and have an F1 in my F430. I've driven manual shift cars all my life, but absolutely love the F1 systems. I think they're more fun to drive.

One of the most difficult questions/decisions for me.
If planned to track the car extensively it would be F1,weekend fun, driving daily or just for kicks,3 pedals would be my preference.....

    Come to think of it,
After driving both options at Mt Tremblant,I think traditional way is still more fun, even if slower for all the practical reasons,it's just much more satisfying.

I had an '06 430 F1 and then moved to an '07 430 6sp and absolutely loved the 6sp. Now have a CS and miss the 6sp. However, the rawness of the CS is unbeatable for me....As mentioned, try them both. Best of luck.

Sorry to go a little off topic, but does anyone have a moderate to loud buzzing type sound coming from their 430's shift gate? My car (an '07) has a buzz coming from the shift gate that's most noticeable at ~2500 rpm in 5th and 6th gears. It's sometimes heard in other gears and/or at other rpms, but it's not as loud. Holding the shifter or pushing down on it does not stop it. If I put the shifter into neutral, the buzz stops immediately. The shift lever does not vibrate excessively while driving (hardly at all, actually).

I removed the ash tray and tried putting some foam under the shift cables. This helped a little, but the buzz is still fairly loud at 2500 rpm in 5th and 6th. I looked around down there as best I could with a light and a mirror, but didn't see anything that might be to blame. If I bang on the console, nothing makes noise.

    Any insights? TIA

I have both - an 05 430 spider F1 and an 07 430 coupe 3 pedal. Just drove them back-to-back today and I'm with the majority of the posters...the increased involvement of the gated shifter and the ability to modulate and fine tune power delivery with the clutch pedal are experiences you just don't get with F1. If I had to choose one, 3 pedal would definitely be it for me.

The other thing you can't really appreciate about the 430 with F1 is just how light the flywheel is on these cars - they are a delight to heel-toe with 3 pedals. You're never going to enjoy those throttle blips with F1 - you'll just hear the computer doing it for you.

I also had the buzz plus the shifter was notchier going into 5th than the other gears. Apparently there are adjustable spherical-type linkages to optimize shifter alignment - the dealership took care of it under warranty, perhaps they'll do the same for you. That solved the buzzing sound, at least in my case.

Thanks. My car seems to shift fine, it's not excessively notchy in any gear, and the stick is centered in the gate left/right, front/back. Hopefully, the buzz can be fixed.

f1 cannot go into a fast neutral like a 3 pedal car for the sweet driveby "neutral revv-up"...whereas you show off by engaging the clutch and bringing the r's up.

for some, thats a dealbreaker right there.

I love my 3 pedal F430 Spider. I agree the F1 will be faster for tracking but I love the involvement of being able to blip the throttle and hearing the perfect downshift

if you can double clutch and heel/toe then the 3 pedal is the way to go...a lot more fun...but if you are driving the boulevard, or traffic driving, the f1 you will appreciate more.

Both are fun on the track, and we are talking minimal time differences...not discernible enough for most of us drivers.

the f1 really takes the art out of driving...the computer handles it all for you.

the 3 pedal requires some skill and attention to detail, especially when applying power in the corners.

i say buy whichever you come across and fall in love with.
