It officially started in July last year which is why I joined here to learn a little bit about the cars. The car was not enjoyable to drive (long story) so I actually dropped it off in Feb last year, but, knew it wouldn't be started until later in the year. I am confident I will make the Queensland rally next year. I have another old saying, "Man, Money and Machinery can do anything".
high compression pistons will put you in the modified class ... but seeing as how you have no class we will let you into the 308QV class
Thanks Moretts. I thought everyone would put 10.5:1's in their engine when rebuilt. Seems silly not to. Doesn't do much. I believe I should get around 250-260HP. From memory the 308's came out with 245HP?
Cool man! I bet you miss driving it. I didnt drive my car for 3 months when the clutch blew up. That was painful, especially as it was only 3 months after I got my car.
The car was a bit rough when I bought it. Did all the suspension and it was then fun to drive. Reminded me of my karting days. Then I kept loosing one cylinder. The plug lead kept falling off the dissy. I didn't enjoy driving it so decided to take it off the road and return it to its former condition by doing the restoration. I do miss it like now with a carbi run coming up, but, it will be fantastic when its finsihed. From the little fun I did have I reckon the 308 is a beautiful car to drive when in good condition.
They are wonderful to drive when well sorted, infuriating when they are not. Just don't expect modern performance and handling from a 30 year old car and you will love it. I love driving my 308 and I never feel the urge to thrash it, just cruise along on a sunny day at a nice pace and it's very enjoyable. I drove Pete's GT/4 and it was lovely. If I was doing what B27 is up to, I would certainly follow the mechanical stuff PP did on his car.
Are you telling us you went to FF with a loose distributor lead and while he was in there it became a ground up resto? LOL Actually some pics of a good patch or panel and wiping work are thin on the ground here it seems. The real trick being minimising the weight of wiping metal added over a whole body. A few sequential pics could add real interest to your resto thread. Some of Newman's discoveries of F-car factory bog intrigued me. Think I'd look hard at alternatives if doing the whole shell myself. The plugged gaps at windscreen corners seem prime candidates for a rethink, especially with a GTS where you're wanting to tighten up any flex you can. A bit hard to really know without seeing it oneself.
is that all? Must have a crap exhaust I had 208 on std pistons - I thought 10.5:1 pistons were worth 30hp?
I will ask him 360C but somehow I see the answer being "buy you own. lol I have full confidnece in the car being set up properly. Ha Ha, no thats not what happened, but it was funny. On the wiping (BTW thanks for teaching me the term, now I sound eductaed) I do have some shots, but, only after he had filed it away. I was amazed at how much lead goes on. Almost all of was filed off. I'll make sure I get in progress shots. I plan on updating my thread in a couple of weeks. Hey its amazing we are talking about Ferraris.
If you had a Vetroresina car, you wouldn't have all that nonsense happening - and it would be lighter
Instead you would have the rust in the subframes which eventually show up as bubbles in the surface. I once saw a glass car with patches of tape over the holes in the bodywork under the side glass behind the doors. The door frames also rust out stopping the windows from working. I had all new door frames made during the resto out of stainless steel. Eventually your first class paint job will have stress fractures in the glass here and there too. I also very much doubt that they are any lighter than the metal cars, those glass panels are quite thick and heavy. Carl888 was going to weigh a metal car and his glass car for definitive evidence; but I don't know if he ever got around to it. Nicky is nicky, even when you say it in Italian. Hard to shake a lifetime's feelings about 'glass and bodgie nicky work.
what is its history from new. Are their any other glass 308's sold new by LD? I ask because as kid I remember a green car on display in the show room.
