I parked my car after a 20 min. ride & went in the house. I went back out to get my cell phone out of the car & steam was pouring out of the engine by the rear window. I popped the engine latch & walked to the rear of the car & there was a stream of antifreeze was flowing on the ground. Antifreeze was sprayed all over the engine bay. I had replaced all the hoses coming from the reservoir 3000 mi. ago so I'm thinking this is going too be bad. I inspect all the hoses coming form the reservoir & all is good. Then I checked the large return hose & coolant gushed out when I poked it with my finger. If this hose is original it has failed at 46,000 miles. I thought I changed it when I did my other hoses, if so it failed after only 3000 miles. I remember the hose costing $80(wow). Anyway I would suggest everyone to change their rubber hoses as regular maintenance precaution. I was lucky to have this happen at my home.

Lucky you were not stuck on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck Josh. :D:D

I plan to replace all my hoses when I do my engine out major. Every 3-5 years is a good thing I reckon. :):)

I had a coolant hose go as well about 2 years ago.

Since then, I've replaced all of tehm with silicon ones. Cheaper and better performing than rubber.

FYI. SFS Performance (http://www.siliconhose.com/content.asp?inc=product&catalog=CKIT128) now is carrying 8 piece silicone hose sets for both the 348 and F355. Various colors too, if you want them. I spoke with them on the phone and they said they would give a reasonable discount (about 12 pounds, if I recall) if we could get together a group of 15. Group buy, time again???

P.S. Most of the other silicone hose sets I've seen only have 6 hoses, not 8.

I had to contact SFS several times to convince them that it would be worth the time/expense to fabricate the hose set for the F355. I will call my contact and find out exactly which hoses are included. I'll also get an exact price quote including shipping (they are in GB). Give me a couple of days. I'll post when I find everything out.

P.S. Off the top of my head: Hose Nos. 13, 15 and 31.

Thanks for the great post, Sy!! This is an inference on my part, but I got the feeling that they were worried about selling enough sets to make a profit. I'm not sure the 348 sets were selling as quickly or in the numbers as they initially had hoped. But I could be wrong.

P.S. I wish they would leave off the logo.

The exact same thing happened to me no less than 4 weeks ago. (Almost exactly) I just finished the 30k major in Nov 07 and saw steam from the same location in the engine bay after a good drive. Easy fix, just a pain to be stranded.
    Thanks for the post.

I used the silicone hose set from Ricambi (same supplier?) during my major service earlier this year.
