I build this last night, its not exact you have to use a bit of imagination. Anyone have a guess as to what i modeled it after. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very cool! It appears you have more hand controllers than lanes (2 lanes, 4 controllers) - Don't quite get that - It does suggest however you've got two power supplies. I'd recommend using one for each lane. I also noticed the fencing on the outside of many of the corners - "Not fair!" - The outside guy can "lean" on the barriers and not fall off..... I know you're operating on the floor, not a permanent setup, but there are a few options for adding a "run-off" area rather than barriers. Finally, what cars are you running? - Some of these little suckers a *scary* fast - Check out the "G2 Extreme" if you can - Un-friggin believable the speed they'll go..... Conversely, the "old" American muscle cars (I can't remember the name now) are much slower and don't have the "traction magnets" that are in the "standard" cars - Much, much more "challenging" to drive. [Note that neither of these are "kid friendly" however - The G2's *will* disappear into another time-zone when they fly off, and the old cars are simply "frustrating" to many people, not just kids.....] BTW, don't know if you've seen it, but http://www.hoslotcarracing.com/ is a *great* site - Lots of track layouts and building ideas etc etc. [No affiliation, just a happy user.] Have fun! Cheers, Ian
Nice Autocad drawing! One thing it did highlight IMHO though is that all your corners are "constant radius" - I guess either 9" or 12" radius. At least if you "mixed" a 9" and a 12" in the same 180 degree turn you'd have a "tight turn in or out" on some corners. You can also get 6" (and I believe 15") radius curves to go even further down that route. Just my 02c, cheers, Ian
I have some extras I bought 3 sets to get enough pieces to make this layout. Thanks I find it allot easier to try it that way then to build it and try to figure it out. I'm not serious about it (YET) It's just something fun I'm doing with my nephew.
That's what I figured. As a nice side benefit powering each lane individually will overcome the tendency of the on-track car to speed up when the other falls off - Very, very frustrating.... Oh, you will be! Very cool! Mind me asking how old? More significantly, can he keep it on the track - I've seen some real young kids that seem to "get it", while others are, basically, completely useless for some reason..... If you can, try and get it mounted onto a sheet of 8x4 - It's amazing how much track you can squeeze in that space - The site I referenced has some good ideas, although I do disagree with his "belief" that 4 lanes are better than 2 - Unless you have a shed full of nephews of course..... As to "mixing" radii - It's "easy" as long as you make a "matching" (albeit possibly reversed) corner at the "other end". Given your apparent knowledge of Autocad you'll have that looking much more like Fiorano RSN! - Gotta get some "kinks" in there..... Cheers, Ian
He's 5 and he gets it. At first hre was full throttle the whole time but after a few times he understood how it works. How do you power each lane individually?
Excellent! - In my albeit limited experience, about 50% of kids that old come to terms with it and love it, for others it's just an exercise in frustration. You have 3 "power connector" straights - One from each set. You're going to use two of 'em. Turn it over and you'll see the "wiring" (actually, nickel strips) that runs from the power input plug, into the throttle plugs and then out to the track. Cut the nickel strips going to one lane in one of the straights and going to the other lane on the other straight - Doesn't really matter which lane as you can always turn the straight the other way round - Except this means you could have wires exiting on the "inside" of the layout...... (Given that you have 3, you can always return to a single power supply of course.) It's actually much easier to do than describe (at least for me!) but, at least with the "standard" AFX/Tomy cars the experience will be much improved - It sounds like you've experienced the "power surge" that occurs in the on track car when the other falls off, and it *always* seems to come at exactly the wrong time of course....... HTH, cheers, Ian
theres a couple on the track and I have 4 more. there all nascar style cars. The tracks were made to mimic some nascar tracks. I took care of that sound's easy enough Ill try it this weekend. Thanks
