It is indeed amazing how many people - even those that are somewhat into cars - will see a 288 GTO (or a picture or model of one) and say, "Hey it's the Magnum PI car!" A very serious wolf in sheep's clothing indeed.
to me it is a great looking machine small, agressiva and very purposefull without lacking in elegance, Joe! i want to see pics of yours
the average Joe would hardly get the difference but the average Joe S. would never fail to spot a GTO from a 308....LOL
Shoot first time I saw one, 20 some years ago, I thought "awesome! they got rid of the 328 idea and built the next generation 308 the way it should be!" Then I read the article. It did nothing to hinder the looks of the 308, but for a long time it made the 328 look a little too civilized and wimpy in my eyes. Truly a great evolution in design!
As I don't see a GTO very often I can imagine myself seeing a 308/328 with something wich doesn't seem quite right when one appears... Then there's only one possibillity As a 15 year old boy I remember walking through Stockholm and spotting a Testarossa in a sidestreet half a mile away. Gr. Martin
I already have the number of chassis of the third GTO that circulates in Spain. It has been one of the last ones in build : 58141 In a couple of weeks we will obtain detailed photos. Interior is black , PW and AC. f.
In Marbella there to lot of english Ferraris. Lot. Maybe this GTO is an englsh one. In any way im tryng to get a meeting of all the GTO of Spain.
Great news Efe, i m really pleased to heard that! when the project will be closed tell the date and place if it s possible to join with everybody.
58141: Sold new to first owner Juan Quintano, owner of Ferrari Import Espanola SA in Madrid and a major collector. Marcel Massini
maybe the original owner modified in a second time. I will discover myself in a couple of week. Please patience. f.
Ouch! Mr Juan Quintano himself!... i taught he made only Vintage Fcars. it s seems to be very important collector in Spain. Hope to meet him one day.
Pierre Dieudonne on board, one of the first test (customer car) concerning a GTO in 84 sn 52751 gear box nº 39 engine nº48. impressive test, because they have made always by the colladatori Paolo Guidetti. In 1984 Ferrari destined only one GTO for Spain. The Importer of the epoch, was Juan Quintano who wanted for his collection the GTO. The car could not be approved the homologation until several months later. And when finally it go over to approve, to being the only one in Spain, it was homologated like 308 GTB. Years later mr. Quintano sold his GTO to an Austrian speculator who had it some years without using (that it a sin !!!!) until the current owner has achieved to rescue and brought back Spain again and and after long and complicated negotiations it could have obtained again the spanish original plates !!!!!!!!!!! (As in a movie. History with happy end)
58141: License plates were "M 1068 LJ". In 2006 the car went to Austria, now back in Spain. Marcel Massini
really..original plates! I applause because in Spain the registration it s a bit difficult to have what you want...and 2006 the new numerologic plates have been instaured.
Christian: I think the bottom image is of another car. Notice that the square Prova plate of the car driven by Dieudonne is affixed to the car's rear panel beside the GTO badge. The bottom image has the smaller rectangular ("Prova MO.856") plate affixed on the standard number plate panel. Speaking of first tests, ex-World driving Champion, the late (great) Phil Hill was invited to test the 288 GTO and he did a comparo with the 250 GTO for the August 1984 issue of Road & Track. The aforementioned "Prova MO.856" plate was used ... he concluded that the new car was more than a worthy successor! Image Unavailable, Please Login
From 1986 until 2006 this 288 was in Spain. Since 2006 until november 2007 ? yes is possible because the collector was Austrian. f.
Quintano is only the 3rd owner? New to Quintano (1st Owner) Then to Austria (2nd owner) Then back to Quintano (3rd Owner) I have a note that it was sold in 2002 to Germany but this is obviously an error. Paul
Pierre Dieudonne confirm that he drives 52751, it seems also that all repoters used the same title review, in France it was: "La plus feroce". i never read something from Phill Hill about test car, but i can insure you that Pierre Dieudonne is my favorit..he s ingenior, pilote, and Great writter. All words are selected with a real emotion for discribing the test, finally the copy is always exellent. thanks for pix, 2 GTO i love it!
Yes, you are right. I mis-read 'F's post. So new to Quintano Sold by Quintano to Austria Sold by Austrian back to Spain. No Germans involved?? Paul
