I'm considering a weeks long vacation to a small hide-away type island, where it's not really over built. No huge hotels, wake up next to the beach. I want to go either the first or second week of October, and really stay within a budget of $800.

Either that or i'm going to stay at my friends house in FL., problem is he is a teacher and would have little time to hang out w/ me except at night, when he may be grading homework. The plus is, i'll save a lot of money.

    Any ideas?

Yea unfortunately, flights are pretty steep now, so with $800 you might be able to fly to hawaii and sleep on the beach and eat hot dogs for every meal. Back in 2004 I went to Maui for a week and paid close to $1K for the flight/hotel, but no way that'll work these days.

Actually wouldn't mind sleeping on the beach. Problem is the 12 hour flight.

Stay with your friend. He can make you pancakes in the morning, and you can drink while he's teaching.

You could fly to West Palm Beach and camp on Peanut Island. Lots of locals hang out with their boats there during the day, so you could probably find some people to tailgate with for food. Take the water taxi from the Riviera Beach marina on 13th street for $10 per day, and bring your gear. You can also eat at the many great marinas on Singer Island adjacent to Peanut Island. It is a good time, and by October the weather here is usually pretty good.

    Haha, you guys are hilarious.

I figured it was a long shot. Was kind of hoping that the opening scene with Vince in Entourage was actually possible, a hut on a beach for $79/day and as many hot girls as I can dream of.

This might actually be doable for near your budget. Once you are on the island you don't really need a car, and it will be nice and quiet that time of year. The problem is getting from the airport to the island. Not sure if it would be cheaper to rent a car for the week, or pay for a cab ride there and back. Me and my gf went there late spring this year. I think we paid around $800 for a nice condo for the week. Everything can be done pretty reasonably. Check into happy hours for some great drink and food specials.

Wow! you can get to Jost for a week for $800 ! does that include airfare? I was in Saint Thomas last October. Boy that cheap! what airline was that thru? :D with $800 he might get to Island Beach NJ. That is if he can afford the turnpike & parkway tolls.

I may end up just going to Fl. Drive around a bit, spend a night in miami or something.

It doesn't even have to be a complete week, maybe 4 days. It's not that I couldn't afford an actual trip, I was just planning on paying my car off next month, and my vacation days don't roll over into next year, so I have to use them soon.

I'll call up Amex travel tomorrow and see if they know of anything.

If you watch internet sales you get get a round trip flight to ST USVI for under $500. In fact, we found RT flights out of Charlotte, NC for less than $300 last June...we drove the 4 hours from Atlanta to save the money as we had 12 people going. Then take a ferry for a few dollars over to JVD and you can stay at Ivan's Stress Free on JVD for a $25 per night summer rate...

I'll be going to Fl. and spending the time in ft. lauderdale. We are going to stay in Miami for a night, but it's the cheapest of all my options.
