http://bleacherreport.com/articles/57802-why-cant-fans-support-lewis-hamilton After reading a story about people not liking Lewis Hamilton, I feel it is time to stand up for him. Britain has a long history of failing in sports, be it football, cricket, or Formula One, we have never led the world in any sport, until now... Lewis Hamilton has had a very successful careerhe won the European Formula A Championship in 2000 and the GP2 Championship in 2006. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Who's the Greatest Athlete of Our Time? Now, given the chance in Formula One, he has already proved himself to be one of the best in just one season. Fourteen races into the 2008 season, he looks like he could win the world championship. Lewis set many records in his first year: most consecutive podiums from race debut (nine), youngest driver to lead a Formula One Championship (22 years, four months, eight days), most wins in debut season (four), and most pole positions in debut season (six). As a fan, I have waited years for someone special from Britain to come into the sport and dominate and now I have it in Lewis Hamilton. With his undeniable brilliance comes some arrogance and stupidity, but you can credit that to his age. I'm sick of people putting him downwhy can't we just savour a young natural talent from Britain?
I think Lewis still has a lot of fans - even here on a Ferrari board. He does have some negatives, though - 1. Last season under a cloud from Stepneygate...and the trouble with FA. 2. Unfortunate tendency to run mouth after everybody was fed the quiet gentleman image from the first. 3. Ron Dennis & daddy appear to be running him by remote control. 4. And, of course, some pretty blatant driving mistakes this year. BTW, original poster - I think you are not giving Great Britain a fair shot in sports, particularly Formula One. There have been a lot of great drivers and great makers down through the past. Maybe as many or more than any other single country, including Italy.

I would think that Lewis Hamilton is one of the more popular drivers in F1. He has legions of fans worldwide. I do not think it strange that he will not receive a lot of praise on a Ferrari chat site. Putting aside the team he represents, then you have to admire his ability at this point in his career. I think the only thing that has blackened his image even in the British press is that at times he makes comments that allow him to appear to be an arrogant wanker. I do not know him, so I can't tell you if he is or not. I would like to think not. He has irritated more of the grid than he should have at this point, not from winning, but from aggressive driving. There is even an ongoing bet that Hamilton will hurt someone soon. Of all the current NEW drivers, it is Hamilton, Vettel, and Kubica I like the most for a potential future seat at Ferrari. Assuming they continue their perrformance as in the present and do not fizzle out as many other drivers have in the past. All three of these guys could end up being another Jacque. I don't care about HIS mistakes, it shows he is trying. You also can not blame him for his team's mistakes. He is not one of my top favorite drivers, but my favorites are not always winning races. Other than that, overall, Hamilton is not more disliked than any other driver that is winning races. I would only hope he learns to answer questions more like Massa, Vettel, and Kubica, a bit of humility, team acknowledgement, and just perform on track. As long as he drives for McLaren, I wish him excellent health, but lots of bad luck on track. Of course, I want Massa to win the WDC this year! Hamilton can have it in a year or two. After Kimi wins his #2
I'm an LH fan, it's tough for me to support him as fervently though because he drives for the wrong team! Apart from Kimi he's my 2nd favorite driver.
True, he just kind of conveniently forgot about Jimmie Clark, Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Stirling Moss, James Hunt, and many many others...
Well...he list Jame Hunt as one of his favorites in his profile along with Damon (wrong Hill to pick), but I have a strange feeling he just grabbed a Brit from the F1 Wikipedia entry. The article reads as if he's a Johnnie Come Lately to F1. Lewis not have fans? Did the UK just sink into the Atlantic?
I'm definitely a fan of Lewis he is an amazing talent and has done alot for F1 I just find some of his tactic's and comment's alittle discerning. Overall I am very impressed with the kid on and off the track ie the post race interview's so maybe my discern with his comment's are just the press twisting his word's around making something out of nothing? Hope 'kraftwerk' read's my reply. lol
Well, if you compile a list of the 10, or even 5 best drivers from each of the countries in the world, I would be hard-pressed NOT to pick the compiled British Team. British Italian French German Australian Brazil Swiss Argentina Spain Finland Ireland Danish Austria Scotland And I rather doubt Team USA could crack the top-10 as a team. Phil Hill, Mario Andretti, then who ? Gurney maybe ? And then ?
After the first 3 or 4 races this season and after witnessing his choke of the WDC last season, I really thought that this guy was an over rated wank. At this point in this season, my opinion of Hami has been raised to new heighths. He became aggresive once he fell behind early and appears to be a man on a mission. This all despite 5 penalties in 13 races. He has shown that he can handle the rain better than any other driver (Well except maybe Vettel). He has put Massa and Kimi on the trailer in the rain races. I'm impressed! You have to be somewhat aggressive and cocky in his position. I've never liked the guy, but I'm beginning to come around. Let's see how the rest of the season goes for him and hopefully he won't choke again.
Actually....I am starting to root for Mclaren again, their car is really good looking, and fast. EDIT: Oh yeah, and Lewis is the next Rain Master. P.S. Post 777!!!!
