My day on the lake yesterday brought a 'fun' experience :( . I offered to run my buddy's '01 Polaris Virage jet ski to the marina for gas. About a half mile from the marina, it started running crappy and began to sink......Just the experience I wanted! After three a-holes passed me up in there boats while I was trying to flag them down, the fourth guy stopped and towed me in. Once at the marina on a jet ski skid, I pulled the seat off and almost the entire hull was filled with water (and my new eel skin wallet was trashed that I had in the rear compartment). After I bildged the water out, I pulled the two spark plugs and turned the motor over (Thinking there may have been water in the engine, I at least knew that if I tried to crank it over in that condition, I would have 'bent things'.......and I was right). After blowing the cylinders out, I put the plugs back and tried to start the motor. While it was trying to start, I noticed that water was blasting out one of the manifold ports into the hull.

Is the above a common thing that happens with a jet ski? If so, my pea brain thinks it's a simple port gasket. yes? No? Comments appreciated.

only you...................................................is this common ?? no.
I think I know where you are talking about but not exactly sure without seeing a pic. But if what Im thinking is correct, shouldnt be that difficult to fix. Did you cause it ???? no way....... Just a mechanical failure.
Keep the plugs out for a couple days, then use lots of starting fluid to get the engine running. I have gotten many engines running after they've taken on water.
If you can, post a pic of the engine and I ll see if i can walk you through it.
Is the engine shot ????? I doubt it.
To bad you dont live out here, I could prob have it fixed and running within an hour.
PS. take advantage, im only being nice for a short while. and for the record, piss off.

Thanks (See everybody, Lamour has a giving side where he won't tell you to piss off.............until the PS:D). My friend took it back to the guy he bought it from and they tore the post exhaust down to find a loose bolt and a blown gasket. They made a gasket and sealed it up. I'll ride it next weekend and let you know how the fix went.

These craft are pretty cool. Very well sealed setup and very suprising how they get 45MHz out of a little 2-banger.

Suprised, after it dried out, it looks like new..........I guess those eel's are use to water! I like eel skin wallets, but they are getting hard to find outside of getting a few when I have friends that visit Hawaii or Mexico. Not a material that you see everyday.

Even though wallets like this are 20 years passe, eels do in fact live in the water.

    Duhhhhhh
