I knew GTR was Mod friendly, but man this is insane. GTR with ECU upgrade and Exhaust ($4400) http://videos.streetfire.net/video/VQMOTORINGS-GTR-vs-997_185232.htm If GTR was stock, the TT should have pulled away slowly. But not anymore.
Not really too smart to post yourself doing twice the legal maximum speed limit. Not only is the driver of the GTR very recognizable in the video but the large lcd shows exactly how fast he's going.
Much more than ECU and exhaust... ECU, exhaust, and voiding of warranty. The warranty thing adds like $4k to the cost of the ECU/exhaust package
Haha, look at the haters. What do you think exhaust and ecu mods that add 50-100hp are going to cost on an $80k car. This isnt your local redneck cherry bomb exhaust.... What do you have to say about Tubi exhausts, they give minimal power and are even more expensive. If the video had have been a ZR1 with some similair mods dusting a 911T you would be swinging off its nuts, fanbois..........
I have to agree with you. You know if that car fails, the first thing they are going to do is "plug it in" at the dealership. A friend of my learned this lesson the hard way a few years back with his modded 996...brought it back for a warranty claim when the engine failed...you know the rest... Either way, NICE vid. That car runs hard.
It depends; cars with turbos get a bigger hp increase than those without. Most Ferraris are Naturally Aspirated and that's why the gains with a new exhaust often is minimal or unoticable. Then again, a 997 with ECU and exhaust upgrade...
Yeah we dont really care too much about warranty. Also own a F430, 997TT and a few other cool cars but this one is definatly the funnest we have had. $4400 is a bargan for 100whp. But then again, thats just my opinion. Thanks, Rickie Cruz
I also knew the ricers would also have much to brag about. Let me tell you something cerry bomb exhaust are a hell of alot more respectable than anything people slap on honda civic's these days atleast when you put on a cherry bomb it sounds like its got a pair. Same could be said about the Tubi exhaust, sure they might not give 100hp but atleast the car will sound better than a Lawnmower driving down the road. You wanna talk about the ZR1?. wait till you hear the sound of the ZR1 backed by a Borla exhaust system. That will put the GTR to shame regardless of what you say.
That's your opinion. Im sure the ZR1 would sound great but I could list a ton of other cars that in my opinion sound better. What do ricers have to do with this, in what shape or form is the GTR a ricer car? Rice = ignorance, you are more of a ricer than I am. Not every Civic or Honda is of the ricer variety. There are plenty of Civic's running around that sound good and would spank whatever Pantera you drive down the 1/4 mile and around a track.Anyways back on track. 100whp for 6% of the cars MSRP is a damn good deal.
Oh and the ZR1 will never put the GTR to shame regardless of what you or anyother fanboy says. Im looking forward to the VSpec....as great as the ZR1 is, theres only so much you can do with the traditional FR setup. I think the GTRs AWD drivetrain makes it a very quick car, just wait until people start dropping alot of weight on them, its going to be a track monster.
If you want to get real technical, it should be "most fun filled" or something along those lines, as "fun" is not truly an adjective.
Funny you say that. Apple just used the word "Funnest" on their new ad. http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/09/09/funnest-ipod-ever-photos-of-the-new-ipod-touch Then again, their old logo "Think Different" should have been "Think Differently."
Wasnt the GTR supposed to be as fast as the Porsche CGT, Enzo and Zonda STOCK? A modded GTR should have slaughtered a stock Porsche 911TT far more than it did in that video. I agree with insearchofdrivingnirvana, an ECU mod on a turbo car is easy to get that initial gains out of, this is because you can change the boost settings through the ECU. After the basic exhaust/intercooler and ECU mods things dramatically start getting very very expensive especially for the GTR with its fragile transmission.
This thread is kind of funny. At first it looks like a normal street race, then I see the plug for the tuner shop involved..... Then I see the digital speedo not really climbing that fast to be honest and I wonder if the two are really racing or one is easing up a bit on the throttle or shifting too early to make the other look better for the tune shop?? IMO that GTR just pulled way too hard on that Porsche Turbo AAAANNND that P Turbo does not sound like it's in the right gear to be racing in the first race.... Besides all that, there's a lot of variables in street racing, I'd be interested to see there times at a 1/4 mile after a few runs with stock tires. I like both cars so don't flame me ricers, I'm just stating my observations, you guys just can't be this gullable. Josh
Around a track not in a straight away race no way.... the GTR is only fast off the line compared to the others. Here's a couple specs I found on each car. GTR 0-60 3.3-3.4 0-100 8.5 1/4 mile 11.6-11.7 @ 119-120mph ZR1 0-60 3.4-3.5 0-100 7.0 1/4 mile 11.3 @ 131 mph Ferrari Enzo/Carrera GT (both the same) 0-60 3.3 0-100 6.8-7.0 1/4 mile 11.0-11.1 @ 133 mph
Its the way your sayin it that makes you a ricer. Wait your calling me a ricer and yet you have the honda....not me. BTW my Camaro might only be a V6 but I have never lost to anything with a Honda badge let alone an import of any kind yes I have raced a few modified civic's and one by one I brought them down. Then you go and knock on Tubi exhaust just cause they don't make 100hp on a ferrari who cares really Tubi exhaust will put almost anything to shame in terms of sound regardless if its a 1hp or 1000hp gain. The GTR with 4400 on an upgrade gets you an extra 100hp on ECU and exhaust and thats great buy 4400 dollars you don't have to deal with any tuning or anything serious like that however for a car thats asking 70k I don't see what the bargan is here if anything I just see an add on option especially since this car is performance based. Vspec OMG the MKIV is back! When the Vspec hits the market it won't matter as to weather or not the ZR1 would beat it cause this is probably the last of the C6 series thus making it obsolete against tomorrows competetion. The GTR has already fallen to the Z06 so matching a GTR against a ZR1 would be overkill.
Fallen to the Z06, says who? You crack me up. Almost every test has the GTR quicker around a track, the Z06 only bests it in acceleration and that is easily fixed with a few light mods. Thats great that youve never lost to a Honda or an import, they must not have very many in Colorado, last time I checked a V6 Fbody is lucky to see mid 15s.
Yea, I'll tell you right now that street race is bogus and only to try to convince people to buy that tune job from that mod shop...... what a joke. Like I said they should run it down a 1/4 strip and see how it does.
How does a GTR hold up to repetitive track laps, do the tires melt and the brakes fade out due tot he weight. Single lap wonders dont count for those who enjoy actualy driving cars in the 21st century AKA lapping. In fact which street car will hold up to serious lapping besides a GT3, scuderia and Exige, dont say zo6 because the brakes are not up to it. Maybe the zr1, we shall see.
