Watched it the other night, and it was pretty good. I liked the guest spots with Jack White, Christina Aguilera and Buddy Guy a lot. But I noticed that Keith Richards seems to have lost his ability to solo. Ron Wood definitely carries him, or at least he did in that show.

I've seen the Stones twice. Keith has lost his ability to solo, stay in time,etc... But he still looks pretty cool!

Anyone remember the SNL skit where Mike Meyers played Mick Jagger and Mick played Keith Richards?

Have always loved the Stones but I think this is a movie that Scorsese should have done 30 years ago around when he did the The Last Waltz.

The set list is fine, incl some nice deeper cuts (All Down the Line, Loving Cup, You Got the Silver, Live With Me) but IMO the Stones today are just a facsimile of what was once one of the greatest rock n' roll bands in history.

Mick doesn't really seem to change, and Keith has said that he plans on dying on stage, but I think there is something to be said for retiring gracefully.

Agreed, and The Last Waltz was an incredible movie while Shine a Light was fair at best IMO. Tough to compare the two as they were done in completely different eras.

Even just thinking about the late great Rick Danko singing It Makes No Difference gives me goosebumps. And how awesome was Emmylou Harris?!

Clearly I'll be watching that again sometime this weekend - it's been too long.

I've been a Stones fan since the late 60s but have never seen them live. So, is it worth the Comcast On Demand $4.99? I may check it out tonight.

I am a huge Stones fan and have seen them twice and couldn't get through the whole movie. I haven't been able to listen to them on the radio since trying to watch it either. FWIW my folks who don't love the Stones thought the movie was pretty entertaining. Give it a go it's only 5 bucks and a short amount of time wasted if you don't like it. I'm 26 and my folks are in their early 50's if that helps any.

I was reading about this the other day and I believe it was Keith Richards who said something along the lines of, "I think this is the first movie Scorsese has made that didn't have 'Gimme Shelter' in it".

Well, two hours of entertainment is usually worth 5 bucks, but it's really up to you to decide. What I kept thinking throughout the show was that it DEFINITELY wasn't worth whatever the New York suckers in the theater must have paid. My Stones profile is this: I'm 42 and have been listening to them since single digits. One of my all-time favorite bands. I wish I could go back in time and see them live during their "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out" era, and anything after Some Girls could blow away with the wind and I'd never care. Although Emotional Rescue has some good stuff on it. I think their concerts in the last 20 years have been nothing more than forgettable nostalgia shows, and that Mick is actually now the weakest link in the band, since his ego and inability to do anything other than bellow songs (Mick, it's "Satisfaction", not "SATISFACTION!!!") have turned him into a glorified lounge singer.

I found Mick especially charming in the early interviews when he was a bit shy & innocent. He was a beautiful young man. The rest of the video sucked.

They now all have deformed sunken in cheeks layered w/ potted, smoke damaged skin. Keith’s hacking voice is so typical of heavy tobacco usage. Does he still do smack? However, Mick still has damn nice muscular arms for a super skinny Brit.

Also, I was wanting to see more classics performed & a variation of the “rooster” would have been a nice touch. Richard’s 12-string sounded like crap on “As Tears Go By”. Personally I would have liked to see an evolved more mature Rolling Stones. Not an attempt to recapture the 70s. Face it, who wants to see a bunch of 60 something old men jumping around like kids on stage. I think they would be way cooler if they took it to another level & did it w/ their own style in a more ageless yet unique way. The Stones could be so eternally hot w/ that!

    Gimme Gimme Shelter already.

    +1, and sad but true.

While there have been a couple of good moments here and there (from Some Girls/Tattoo You and on), IMO, the golden age for the Stones was the Jimmy Miller era.

I really don't think rootsy rock n' roll can get any better than what you experience on those 5 studio and 1 live albums.

Interesting. For the longest time, Mick thought he was going to die on stage - by way of knife.
