Met him once. A HARD act to follow. One of the last if not very damn near few people of Southern Charm & Class in Hollywood. Ever. (And yes I know he was from Ohio!)
I met him once as well. He was still gracious at a moment that he didn't need to be, on the pit lane of a C.A.R.T. race.
I'll think of him every time I have a salad at home. While pouring his dressing for several years, he poured about $300M into his Hole in the Wall camps. I like that.

Mr Newman drove in a Brian Redman club event several years ago where I was SCCA working corners. I often took pix of the event & James Redman pointed me to Paul Newman that weekend. During lunch break I asked Mr Newman if I could take a photo up close but he wasn't agreeable so I respected his privacy. Took some of his car w/ him behind. And yes, his eyes were striking blue, just like in the movies. Went to the Daytona 24 hrs where he raced & won w/ his #70 "Nobody's Fool" car. I think he stayed in the car for 2 shifts at the end. How good does it get for a guy at that age! "I was never a very graceful person. The only time I ever really feel coordinated is when I dance with Joanne," he once told The Associated Press, referring to his wife, Joanne Woodward. "And that's not my doing. But when I'm behind the wheel of race car, I feel competent and in charge. It's something I really enjoy." Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sometimes nothin' is a pretty cool hand. RIP to a true legend, an absolute class act, and a great person.
