Wait the Turbo is just 4 sec slower than a GT2 ??? HUH ?
I don't think Porsche would risk faking numbers - there'll be many other independent GTR ring times when magazines like Sport Auto get to test the car, and if they are all able to reproduce the ~7:30 time, Porsche would completely lose their face... I rather tend to believe them...
The fallout will be that Nissan will sell every one they make no matter what. The Germans need to get back on thier game.
and Nissan/ Renault's credibility is quadrupled as a result of stacking the deck! where is that Shinkaze guy?
And I don't think Porsche is trying to hurt Nissan, they just want truthful answers for everyone. Because, even though maybe less than 1% of GTR customers will actually track their cars, they still paid the money for it and it should perform as stated.
Yeah, it should, should've been able to hit 180<. and I still don't believe a GTR could beat a GT2. I could see a Turbo, and I know the GT2 isn't untouchable compared to the Turbo, but I seriously thought there was something fishy going on at the time. Kudos to Porsche.
Do you not know that Porsche is consistently conservative with performance figures of their cars? For years and years... GTR Forum.......chirping crickets.... http://forums.gtrforums.com/showthread.php?t=1357
It'll be curious to see how Nissan handles this? Will they just lie low and deny or retest with more independent validation. I'm sure the PR white shirts are trying to figure out the next move on this. For Porsche to come out and contest this would have one believe they know what they're talking about. It would seem that at these 'ring tests they should invite the competition so they can check things out first to avoid future embarrassment.
In Stig I trust: 1:17.1 Gumpert Apollo S 1:17.3 Ascari A10 1:17.6 Koenigsegg CCX (with Top Gear spoiler)[6][7][8][9] 1:18.4 Pagani Zonda F 1:18.9 Maserati MC12 1:19.0 Ferrari Enzo 1:19.5 Ariel Atom 2 300 1:19.7 Nissan GT-R 1:19.7 Ferrari 430 Scuderia 1:19.8 Porsche Carrera GT 1:19.8 Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 1:20.4 Koenigsegg CCX [10] 1:20.7 Ascari KZ1 1:20.9 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 1:21.2 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano 1:21.9 Ford GT 1:22.3 Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Did anybody really believe it ? I mean anyone with credibility, not fanboyze. This is with the Nissan "adjusted" HP figures. I hope the owners are very careful protecting their warranty rights with the boosted engines.
Wha? GT-R faster than the Carrera GT!? SRLY? I don't think Stig would lie though. This is going to be an interesting statement for Porsche to make. Before we know it, GM is going to say the Viper ACR can't possibly lap faster than their stock ZR1 and Ferrari will claim their ring time doesn't count because someone sabotaged the pit signal lights.
Porsche didn't say the time could be done, just that it wasn't done using stock tires, excuse me, tyres.
btw: This is a pretty low blow by Porsche - claiming basicly that they can't drive the GT-R as fast as Nissan drivers, thus Nissan must have cheated. If Porsche has any balls they would issue an official challenge to Nissan - have both parties bring a stock car with stock tires and stock everything - bring their own drivers and support crew, rent out the ring for half a day and let both parties rip them up on the track. If Nissan cheated then Porsche better have better prof than 'oh, we couldn't drive the car that fast on the track when we did our own testing' BS. 80% of independent magazine/TV/video reviews across all major continents place the GT-R above the 911 Turbo, now Porsche is calling BS - why not have both parties stake their reputations on an semi-official match right at the Ring. (Meanwhile GM & Viper crew are about to get seriously drunk at Octoberfest somewhere in Germany)
This seems like a pretty rare move by Porsche, and I it seems within their Germanic character to call BS when they think it is true. They used the same driver on the same day in the same weather. Unless the driver totally sandbagged (a stunt I don't think Porsche would pull), the numbers were so far off that they felt it was right to point out the discrepancy. You are ignoring the amount of pain it would take to pull off this "semi-official" race, the most important factor being who inspects the cars ahead of time to ensure they are both stock. There would be zero trust between the parties.
