One other idea. I fitted Cup car grills on my 997 GT3RS to protect the radiators from stones as the mesh in the stock grill was rather large. Scuderia also has large mesh. Is there a Challenge car type of grill that might fit in the Scuderia opening? If not I will probably use my tried and trusted method of chicken wire on top of the OEM grill when I am going fast. Works great but hardly concours good looking

 

Good idea! You come over and take them. I am going to Zhuhai to practice in my Formula Renault like crazy for the Pan Asian Festival of Speed. Am unlikely to be back in HK for about 10 days unless the weather turns nasty or I get too tired to practice anymore. Cracking 1:40 in the heat and humidity is not easy!

 

I would do Formula Renault training at ART. They have 2 day courses for novices. You will learn 10x in a Formula car compared with a touring car. ART have the best instructors, cars have data logging. There is a course at the end of September. ART's website: http://www.art-motorsports.com/

I am not so familiar with the touring car options at ZIC.

 

It was very hot on the track. I achieved my target time and am encouraged by my speed in various segments. I did a 1:40.5 without too much difficulty. My next target will be a 1:39.5 which in this heat is about the most I can hope for. That means T10 flat and T14 at 157+ with no other mistakes. I did 3 full days - 4 sessions per day. No crashes and I feel great. Lots of Formula Wests on the track during our sessions - we call them the rolling chicanes. A lot of crashes so many red flags

 

No idea where a 1:39.5 would put me. Field should be 25 cars. Maybe 20? Hopefully not last! Only time will tell. It is the best I can hope for now given that I did not touch my car from March until September. I want to race and can only do my best

Formula Wests spun a lot but not too many big crashes. It was the Formula Renaults that were hitting the walls. Several cars needed forklift truck to get back to the pits. People are starting to push to get ready for the Pan Asian race. One guy hit the wall quite hard at T10 - fairly typical crash

 

Not sure. Formula Renault has sequential gearbox so we can downshift very fast at high RPM's. We need the engine braking to make the corners We come into T7 at +220kph and brake at 90m for a 2nd gear hairpin. Scary

 

There are lots of kids from all over the world and they are scary fast. In my last race i was older than my 3 team mates combined. I was older than any of their fathers by a good margin. Have to be realistic. I am doing this for fun and to push myself to improve. There is zero chance to win or even top 5. I got a championship point once and that to me was a victory.

Braking is tough. You need exactly 70 brake pressure. 75 = lock up and 65 = gravel if you are braking late. If don't brake late you will be slow and get passed very easily. Laws of physics are so easy to understand but hard to apply

Just picked up my car from the dealer where I had the 430C shift paddles fitted. What a big improvement. Highly recommend this to any 430S owner - a cheap upgrade with Ferrari parts that dramatically improves the driving experience. The 430C shift paddles are comparatively ugly to the 430S carbon fibre paddles but they work a lot better for shifting in corners. Thank you to the See Fu who pointed me in this direction.

Will post some photos when I get the chance. No time to drive the car lately

Had tea with friends on China National Day. They thought an easier solution would be to duct tape chopsticks to the shift paddles. I will stick with the 430C shift paddles
