Since many people seem to think the sky is falling on F355's I was at Dallas Fort Worth Manheim auction. There was a super clean blk/tan 97 6spd with 18k miles that went for $65,900. That's not bad at all for a private dealer wholesale auction. I think that goes to show that the F355's under $60k usually have some story behind them. Clean ones will stil fetch top $ and I would not be surprised to see 360's fall below F355's like the 996's did with the 993's.

On the other hand there was an 04 360 with 4k miles that struggled to even get bids at $108.

I would say that retail for a recently serviced 99 F355 with less than 15k miles and no stories is still close to $80,000. Not bad at all for this economy.

I know the previous owner of that car and he paid closer to $70k for it just 6 weeks ago.

I feel bad for him because he did get a super clean car with all the records, etc.

He could not retail it for $72k, so whatever you say retail should be, it seems not to be the case.

So your friend is a dealer who did this? He might need to look for another line of work if he bought it, only tried to sell it for 6 weeks and then dumped it for whatever he could get.

Patience is the name of the game, you can't try to sell a speciality car like a Ferrari F355 for 6 weeks and then give up.

If he had sat on it for 6+ months, tried multiple advertising sources (fchat ads, dupont, eBay, etc), and then gave up I would agree.

But to give up after 6 weeks....... that doesn't say much about the market just your friends patience

It may have been closer to 8 weeks but, in general, I do agree that he did not wait long enough for a profitable sale.

He thought it would fly out of his warehouse just by using eBay and his own website. I instructed him to get a complete car and advertise it through many avenues. The problem in his case was that he bought an enthusiast's car and not a playboy car (for his market).

The fact remains, though that he did advertise on his site and eBay with no offers above $60k.

Sad that such a complete car would go for so little.

His deal is volume, so it scared him for it to sit 8 weeks with no offers close to his cost.

He bought it on 7/30/08 for $69,000.

eBay isn't really the best place to sell a Ferrari. You end up having to compete with cars that have stories and it taints the value of your car if you genuinely have a clean car.

I wish he drove it more, he only put 200 miles on it. But as a dealer if I realize I'm going to take a loss on a car I make sure to at least get some enjoyment out of it before taking it to the auction.

He genuinely had a good car, you should have bought it for $66k :D

I wish I could have added another to the collection, especially at that price.

My wife wants a DB9 Volante, so no F355 Spider for her.

I bid $50k on it. Didn't know how desperate the seller was. I don't have the money for another Ferrari right now unless I steal it and can enjoy it for a couple months and flip for profit/break even

Patience may be the name of the game, but six months from now this car will certainly be worth less than what it was just auctioned for. He's smart offloading it now considering the economic climate we've just entered. I don't think that 355s have reached bottom yet either.

I think clean F355's will make a rebound next Spring.

    That's just my opinion though.

The 360 and F430 are going to fall hard but I think the 308-F355 are going to go up in value.

At least as far as production numbers are concerned, I feel good about my car. There were only 1042 F1 Berlinettas built for the entire world, so there has to be some upside for me down the road!!:)
