take tranny fluid or some other lubricant (wd 40 etc)....pour it in the front part of the cable by the front fire wall and take an air hose and blow it until it drips out of the back. It is possible that when the cable was installed that the casing in the rear cracked and maybe some rust formed....not a tough one to do

 

Tom is right on with respect to lubricating the cable.

If you are in the mood for a bit more work, it is prudent to disconnect the cable from both ends. In the front it is as simple as removing the clevis pin. In the back it requires either removing the air filter housing (to gain access) or crawling under the car. If you can free the cable from both ends, then you should be able to easily slide the cable back and forth in the sheath. If this sticks, then you have your answer.

However, there are a number of moving parts. The problem can be in the clutch pedal assembly, with rust forming on the pivot pins in the front. It is relatively easy to access these once the front spare tire area is accessed and the fiberglass trim removed.

If the pedal moves freely without the cable, then it might be in the back in the bell housing, where the throw-out bearing release fork rotates on a pivot ball. If the cable moves freely and the pedal moves freely, then the trouble may well be with the pressure-plate fork and or the pivot ball, or with the helper spring (that large spring hanging from the end-bracket on the cam cover).
