    So basically what you're saying is that you care more about what others think of your car then enjoying it to your own satisfaction?

    Correct me if I'm misunderstanding this but your reasoning behind not driving your car in the rain is because you care about how others look at your car with the engine lid open?

    I can drive my 360 in the rain and I have occasionally driven it in the rain and I'm not afraid of it getting wet and dirty. The problem is that here in NorCal, people drive like **** in the rain and I just don't want them to hit me when I am in the 360.

The guy is right, whats the point of owning a race car if you never drive it. if you are worried about resale value then dont drive it cause you cant afford it, especially newer ferraris. Classic ones.. yea dont drive those much lol!

    After the first rock chip, is like the deflower of my car, so the second, the third not that bad. So i will just turn my car into the red headed wild whore it is :D

    Thats not at all what I said. What I said was that those of us who get our hands dirty on our own cars, are perhaps a bit less prone to slop it all up after months of working on it. Most of the people who simply write checks or who couldnt be bothered to touch an engine, wouldnt know the difference.

    Why dont you use the same approach with Newmans 308. Anyone who would consider driving that car in the rain is a moron.

    But I have driven in the rain, all day in fact. And after seeing all myhard work slopped up I would think twice the next time, its a lot of work.

    In the past 7 days, I have spent about 40 hours working on the Ferrari.

    I still drive it.

    OK guys, here's the real story related to me by a big cheese Ferrari guy:

    All Ferraris have a secret rain and snow counter. Every time you drive in rain, the value drops 5K. Snow...10K. Track time..25K. Dealers can plug it in and get the count. My 430 is in negative numbers so no point in ever trying to sell it. Heck, I got rained on during my first drive from the dealer to home.

    PS: A few weeks ago we had our anual Ferrari fall foliage tour. It snowed the first day, nice wet sloppy stuff on the high passes and plenty of hard rain in between, but no one wimped out. Everyone brought their Ferrari anyway. Made me feel good about my local Ferrari mates.

    I looked at a "Perfect" Boxer when shopping for one.
    Here is the problem; When you get that perfect car, especially that old, one has a mental obligation to keep it in pristine condition. Been there done that. I wanted one I could drive guilt free. Stone chips be dammed. But still very nice. I found that car and drive it as often as it pleases.

    Nope, no rain. My 355 is not "just a car" to me. I enjoy keeping the car clean and well maintained. The Honda or the truck can go out in the sh*tty stuff.

    One of my all-time best (perhaps the best) driving experiences was a couple laps around Portland International Raceway in a CS under at-times-heavy rain conditions. One can truly appreciate the balance of the car in those circumstances. That being said, I think the bigger issue is not so much what happens outside as inside. The blowers often can't keep up with too much condensation and even when they do, I find the racket unnerving.

    Unfortuniately noone can enjoy everything in life.

    So one enjoys as much as one can and decides what are the most important.

    I will never know the joys of "Great White" (the 89 Mondial t Cab) being perfect.
    My goal is to have Great White as close to excellent as possible while still using it.
    The car is white with red interior and black convertible roof.

    In my mind I wrote the $ value to $ 0.00.

    However, the fun value of Great White is still very high.

    Maybe I will get a Ferrari California in 2012, but I will always keep Great White.

    I realize that I will have to spend more time and money by having fun, but I accept it.

    In about 20,000,000 years when our sun burns out or even in 100 years, I doubt that it will matter.

    My company has also worked on the Medicaid Systems for Oregon and Ohio. As such we have a place in Salem, Oregon and are looking for a place in Lake Oswego or Portland. There has never been a problem with running Great White in the Portland weather.

    The balance of Great White on snow, ice, wet surfaces, or twisty roads is amazing.

    I have also ran Great White in the Southwest Deserts at 120 F with no issues.

    I have also ran Great White in the snows of Park City, Utah and other locations with no issues.

    Have also ran Great White on the East Coast (was stolen in Delaware).

    Have ran Great White in Texas and Phoenix area (Intel and Honeywell) with no issues.

    We also do work for the pharmaceutical companies (anyone with large amounts of documents and/or knowledge). Normally a new pharmaceutical takes about five years for FDA Approval. We can normally shorten this down to two or three years. If a pharmaceutical has a profit potential of around $100,000,000.00 a year and can get on the market before its competitors, this has a value to some companies.

    When consulting for a pharmaceutical company in Salt Lake City, one day in the parking lot a man walked up to me and asked if Great White was mine. When I replied yes, he said "Thank God"! He had been waiting in the parking lot to see if the owner would come out. We talked cars for awhile and I gave him a test flight.

    Great White created more interest than the CEO's 12 cylinder Mercedes.

    Last weekend at a hotel in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, I was doing some minor work on Great White in the hotel parking lot. A man walked up and asked what I was doing on the "beautiful car". He said it was the most beautiful car he had ever seen.

    When I have the cover off, people are always turning into the hotel parking lot to take a look at it.

    Great White will never be concourse (sp?) quality. However, experiences like the above increase my joy of owning it (besides the driving).

    If I put Great White into a guarage, I would never have experiences like the above.

    The experiences are worth the extra costs of using it.

    Women have also been attracted to Great White and the driver, but a true gentleman does not tell !

    Hard to do this when a car is in a guarage !!!

    If I owned an Enzo, the $ value in my mind would still be $ 0.00.

    I would view it as a tool to greater joy which would have much value.

    As such I would never be interested in Newman's 308. I did not even know he used to have a 308.

    Well, guys, I drove my 360 Spider in the rain for an hour.
    It didn't melt, but a bit of mess to clean up.

    During the clean up and subsequent car wash I discovered, much to my dismay, that the factory uses open cell foam around the small inspection plate, which is located in the trunk next to the windscreen. This is the inspection plate or access panel located for plugging in the 12V charger among other things in there. The problem with using open cell foam (the same cheap foam you can buy at the hardware store under FROST KING label) is that I found it was soaking wet from the rain and car wash. There was a bit of evidence that this can wick moisture from the outside to inside the compartment. This is definitely not a moisture proof compartment nor is this type of foam the correct thing to use for this application, IMHO.

    I had one of those "what were they thinking or drinking" when the engineers decided to use this foam type as a gasket? BTW, this inspection panel is outside of the trunk -boot- main water gasket, and exposed to all of the run-off from the windscreen. Insert Homer Simpson here--- "DOH"!!!!

    My recommendations at this time, avoid rain when possible, limit the amount of water during a car wash (always as a rule) and at the least, check that the inspection plate is snug, water didn't penetrating the seal, and follow-up by at least dry off the foam gasket.

    I supposed I can always replace this foam with a different material, something that repels water, not hygroscopic. I'll keep you guys posted if I find something suitable.
