Is it worth it to swap out the OEM filter and/or intake box/ tube with aftermarket parts, or is the stock intake system efficent enough that improvements are minimal or negligible?

Not many options other than the GruppeM intake----by itself probably won't do alot, but combined with a free flowing exhaust could help quite a bit... Either one by itself won't get the full benefit until both both are done. That is my next step--a GruppeM to combine with my full aftermarket exhaust... Then a nice ECU tweak to tune the car just right--maximizing everything..

I've heard mixed things about the ECU mod.
Here is what a local speed shop told me.

"I checked with Eurobahn and we can upgrade the software on your 97 F355. We would need to remove your ECU and overnight it to Eurobahn in California and have them install an upgraded chip. They would then overnight the ECU back to us. Retail cost is $2599.00 plus overnight charges. Eurobahn expects about 25 hp and a bit less torque."

    Thoughts?

Competizione Cars can do it in-house and tailor it for your exact cars mods....Then run it on there dyno before and after to show you the results...

Are you local to me? Or do you just know a lot about the area? I looked up that intake and if my currency coversion is close, it's about $3,300 fo that intake. That's a LOT of money for a few horsepower. And $2,500-#3,000 for an ECU reprogram seems high, and the headers/ exhaust numbers aren't exaclty cheap either. It doesn't surprise me, but it does open your eyes. I guess it's a matter of supply and demand. Mustangs and Civis are so common that the parts can be made and sold in higher volume and are therefore cheaper, or is it just that people think they can overcharge anything that is a Ferrari part because people think we use money for toilet paper?

Yes, I am in southern MD--

A little of both, R&D for Ferrari parts tends to be high because there aren't that many cars to test and the market is nothing compared to Ricers--- on top of that---the name Ferrari brings a premium for services and parts. Bottomline--if you want to play in a Ferrari you must be willing to pay and pay big....it sucks for sure, I am always looking for deals to save on some of the big costs, but not alot of deals out there except group buys on parts, etc.......but then again these aren't Honda's..

Yes, the GruppeM is around $3300 or so. Compertizione Cars has them in stock ready to go.

I believe you have to be a subscribed member (or moderator, consultant, sponsor) to have an avatar.

Back on topic, it is typically big bucks to extract some extra hp out of a Ferrari engine. The 355 already gets extremely high hp/liter of engine displacement, and I suspect going from two TB's in the 348 (3.4 liter) to eight internal TB's on the 355 (3.5 liter) in the intake system is a big part of the hp difference between two engines that are only 0.1 liter different in displacement.
