    +1 It may be a supercar, but it's a shy supercar. Quiet, composed. As someone in here said, too much Mercedes not enough McLaren. That said, I don't hate it. The look is unbelievable. I've sat in a few and they are comfortable cars. So yeah, nice car but nowhere near what McLaren is capable of.

    No auto mode in the Stradale ;)

    You must not know much about transmissions to compare a Ferrari F1 gearbox to an automatic.

    They were thinking it's a Mercedes. ;)

    Seriously though, what is a Mercedes Supercar supposed to be? A big powerful, comfortble Grand Touring car that can be driven up and down Sunset AVE by celebs and the Paris Hiltons of the world. I think the car hit the mark.

    The only place they screwed up was placing the "McLaren" name on it. Had they not done that, we would have held the car to a different standard.

    I think he meant the AMG cars... M-B sells their lower end sports cars with manual options... at the AMG level, in the bigger sedans and up at the SLR-level, no actual manuals to be found.

    In my opinion, the 722 Roadster looks hot, and so does the coupe in matte black finish.. can anyone say Batmobile? (Lambo lovers will still prefer Batman's new LP640)

    ... but to answer your question about the SLR being hated:
    * long in the tooth
    * automatic trans
    * it's a Benz (so non-Benz lovers will steer clear)
    * has SL-like headlights, but a much higher price
    * the headlights are similar the PREVIOUS-gen SL
    * too heavy
    * not sporty enough

    M-B can defend the dimensions by claiming that the supercharged engine needs that space to be placed in a front-mid position.

    but look at Aston Martin.. they do a great job by stuffing the engine far back enough to create a beautiful shape with a front-mid engine... and the transmission is in the back.

    Everyone hates them but everyone has them? ;)

    SLR just isn't really appealing to me because it's an automatic, stretched SL. It came out the same time as the Enzo and CGT and compered to those 2 it is very weak. For the same money I would rather have a 430 Scuderia or LP640, etc.

    There is something about cars like the Veyron and SLR that don't really appeal to me because they come outwith a new special edition every few months (Veryron>Pur Sang>Hermes>Black Blood>Gransport) (SLR>722>Roadster>722S) whereas the Enzo does not have any of these :)

    IMO the SLR looks very dated with the circular headlights.

    VERY-ron? :)

    Anyway, to respond to your post:
    Enzo --> P4/5 --> FXX :D

    Yes, I know.. not the same as a relatively mass-produced car, but I just wanted to say it.. :)

    That's true, that's why they're working on a new car with HWA... I wonder what McLaren's new supercar will be like.. and who will make their engine since McLaren-Mercedes still maintain their F1 partnership...
