Just got a deck installed, pressure treated pine, and I have no idea when I'm supposed to seal the wood. before the winter? now? next spring? what is the best sealer? I assume it's not Thompson's water seal.

Below is a link from Lowe's on deck treatment. I would wait 4 weeks or so before treating it. Whatever you do, DO NOT use Thompson's! Part of my business is power washing and sealing decks and of all the products that we've tried, I like Pittsburgh products (formerly Olympic) and Wolman. I use Pittsburgh's cedar tinted sealer on my own deck and am very happy w/ the results. It gives it a rich tone and will last for 3-4 years on the vertical surfaces and about 2 on the horizontals.

Termites will make chow of any wood – even treated if in ground. Saturate w/ more poison before you seal.
