Update to importing F430 to China

chinese highways are new so exotics can open a bit when there is limited traffic at night. you'll get lots of hassle from police when you aren't moving, say in a parking lot or gas station. they'll make any excuse to ticket you.

when ur in the city, the roads aren't that great and it's generally congested.

i'd get a chauffer and a S550 or lexus instead. if sports car is your requirement, a nice porsche cayman may serve you better than a f car.

no idea what it'd take to import the car. generally tax isn't too bad but the paperwork and risk of a car stuck at port for months is the problem.

 

In order to import a personal car into China and licensed legally, your company in China will require to have investment capital of US$1million.

 

You really have courage to bring your F into China. In addition to the red tapes and $$ involved, if you are located in big cities like GZ/SH, you will find there is a small collection of such but rarely seen on the street. Contact : www.ferrari.cn
They are the best source to ask your questions and no guess work. I lived in SH for a year and never wanted the licence to drive myself. If you get into an accident and personal injuries are involved, it will be very a very costly proposition.
Good luck. Get a driver and a Lexus/Cadillac SLS etc. It cost you about RM 10k a month. or US$ 1300, including insurance. Gas is cheap in China as compared to US.

 

looked into it, and if u did search archive, the general answer is no, just buy one over there will be easier. buy a new one, u have warranty, sell it when u leave china, and the depreciation will be less than your hassle, effort and money to legalizing your imported one.
exotics are not rare at all in china nowaday, especially big cities like shanghai, i spot them on daily basis. ppl def going out and about in those cars.

 

price is about 2x of US. most of it in taxes.

 

If you want to buy a F in China, there is the usual long wait-list. The recent meltdown will not cut the waiting time as only 200 units are imported annually. Good luck and enjoy your stay at the Middle Kingdom. Also check if your present insurance company have a counter-part in China

 

if u wanna a house with garage in gated communities like the USA suburban living, u should look in Pudong, thats across the HuangPu river from shanghai. they have lots of developments like that.
on the shanghai side, u mostly have to settle with a highrise luxury apt building, place like 8 park ave in JingAn district is very popular among expats. u could get a nice unit there for under 3k USD a month with parking spot.
