Go Gators! I wonder how high they will go up the rankings after beating #3 LSU by 30. :)

Damn, LSU got annihilated... to a team that lost to Mississippi @ home. Not to mention, presumed contenders for the SEC title & National Championship, Georgia got man-handled (for the most part) @ home to over-achieving 'Bama.

Who/what/where/why/what was that talk about the SEC Champ' being the National Champ'?

Anywayz... looking fwd' to seeing if Texas & Penn State are for real, in the forthcoming weeks! I like both programs, as both states are my home-states (along w/ CA & 'SC... :D).

Mizzou' loss was surprising, to say the leasts. I saw them as an offensive juggernaut this season.

So, w/ powerhouse/highly-ranked programs dropping an 'L' on their records, I wonder which players are on the Heisman radar now?

Colt McCoy, obviously seems like one based on his play thus far.

Chase Daniels was a front-runner, but the recent loss dampers his star-power despite putting up strong numbers in defeat. If he has strong, pivotal performances for the remaining season, he still seems like a finalist.

    Sam Bradford... [see Chase Daniels]

Tim Tebow can get invited to NYC again in December if he leads the Gators to the SEC title & beyond.

Anyone got others on the radar?

^^What are you talking about? 'Bama had a bye-week. They didn't play Georgia. Why is there talk of SEC champ being national champ? Because they won the last two if you haven't paid attention. They're 4-0 in BCS national championship games. No one can talk about SEC being overrated in national championships with perfection like that.

How's your Big XII? Still not playing a lick of defense? Responsible for shafting USC from the 2003 championship game (Oklahoma)? Responsible for shafting Auburn from the 2004 championship game (Oklahoma, again)? Responsible for the most boring championship game in 2000 beating FSU 13-2 or some crap like that (Oklahoma)? Losing to Boise State and then being blown out to WVU in BCS games? Maybe the same conference responsible for ruining college football in 2001 after having undeserving Nebraska in the championship game? Did they even win the Big XII that year? They didn't even play in the Big XII championship game yet play in the national championship game. Ha. Or how about being responsible for a championship game that had ZERO defense and only played three guys the entire game? Vince Young from Texas (NFL bust), Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart from USC (both busts)? Yeah, the Big XII is great alright...give me a break.

Thanks Cap'n Obvious... I was referring to the previous week's outcome in the Tide rollin' over the Bulldogs in Athens. You are aware that a team called Alabama Crimson Tide laid waste to another team called Georgia Bulldogs @their own stadium on a so-called 'black-out' nite. (that-is, unless it was all a dream... :D)

At least to me, it looked like a near-blowout. But the 2nd half loss of focus (discipline?) by 'Bama made it a game, somewhat.
You're talking about a small time-capsule, the recent handful of seasons, instead of the past 25-30 yrs. Where was the SEC in most of the 80's & the 90's? Spurrier's Gators fun-&-gun grabbed a title (which was awesome!), and Fulmer's Vol's had their perfect season (courtesy of Arkansas). Other than Georgia in the very early 80's, I can't think of any consistent SEC dominance after 'Bama kinda disappeared following the late 70's post-Bryant (well, Stallings' crazy defense had that one phenom' season, over my 'Canes :tears: ). Also, Auburn had it's few once-a-generation perfect seasons only to be at the short-end of the NCAA-machine or the polls. Meanwhile the Big Ten had Michigan, Ohio State, and later Penn State being Nationally prominent year-after-year. The Big (L)East had Miami, and later VTech (not the phone or Honda misnomer :D). Occasional undefeated seasons by WV were here & there. While I'm at it, Pitt was there for late 70's & early 80's as a powerhouse :)p lame plug, I know). Pac 10 was off-the-map, I'll admit that. Big 12 had Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma dominating, and later Texas' resurgence. ACC had FSU year-after-year of owning everyone, but Miami & January 1st.

From Cap'n Obvious to Cap'n Cool (NOT!) w/ this bit, huh. First-off, I live in Austin: as due to family/career. I have no affiliation, loyalty, nor fondness towards the Big 12, past-present-future. I'm an unbiased, objective fan & admirer of college football in general. And as of here-&-now, Big 12 is offering some damn good football throughout it's lineup of teams (sans' Baylor ). Has it always been that way? No. Will it always be this way? Very doubtful. My keen interest lies w/ places that I've live(d)/grown-up at (USC & Penn State), attended/trained at (Pitt & Miami) or have family/friends as alumni's (Florida & Texas). The mere mention of Oklahoma & Nebraska nauseates me! :D

Not sure how you'd infer or more likely assume that I'm a Big-10 jockey... my location? my honest/fact-based/impartial statements that Big-10 is playing well as of late? What gives. . .

And for the points you presented above re: Big 10, I owe you a brewski', as we both see things the same!

(and for every bust you named, there's guys like Heath Shuler, Tim Couch, Danny Wuerffel, Rex Grossman, Jessie Palmer, blah-bha-bla... being a stud or a dud in the NFL isn't dependent upon coming from a prominent/powerhouse-program or a certain league)

Such insecure prisses on here... gosh! :D Is it so hard to support your own team & show your loyalty w/o being closed-minded, obstinate, and so forth? Guess not. . .

I just like good college football. Period. And if my team(s) win, yay! If another wins/performs righteously, I'm the first to recognize & appreciate the skill, devotion, commitment, and performance that they display. That's what makes up a true fan of the game, where I come from. Then again what do I know, I only got a hundred or so posts on here (w/ this new acct' despite being one of the F-chat's TRUE originals nearly a decade ago & knowing/meeting the site admin' regularly) & no Ferrari in my sig'/profile (currently, that-is). Maybe I'll put my e-p3n15 size & bank acct' details in my profile to get some respect or at least recognition of having an opinion or occasional insight that is of merit, or perhaps Rob can add (2) zero's after my post-count, lol. . .

Have a good one in DC, my friend! I'm headed there in a few weeks to pick-up a car (NoVA)... hope to avoid the nasty-cold that late Oct' can bring.

Osiris, you should know better than to doubt anything about the SEC in the threads here. Very touchy subjuect for lots of fans of that particular conference. :)
Big 12 definitely looks the best CONSISTENTLY this year. Obviously LSU is better than Missisippi whatever that beat FL or Miami (sad face) that had better games against the Gators.
Alabama is good, but a 1 point win against a much weaker team is not consistent.
PSU and Texas have played the best so far this year.
YEAH for the Canes awesome 20-14 win over the very powerful and upcoming UCF team.
    GO CANES!

They played terribly and frankly deserved to lose. They made many mental mistakes, Daniel played his worst game ever as a starter. When on their game they are the equal of Texas and have a good shot at knocking off another #1 on Saturday, so they will be back in the Top 10 if they win.

I don't see anything other than a Big 12 North championship giving Daniel a shot at the Heisman either. It was a huge defeat for Missouri.

Can someone explain to me why USC is so high in the rankings? #4? They shouldn't be this high already. The rest of their season is so easy, they should stick closer to #10 until the last few weeks of the season when teams like TTU and OkSU have been given a loss (not because they aren't good, but because the Big XII schedule being that much harder than the Pac-10).

I'd like to think the BYU QB - but they need to run the table, and your list of frontrunners need to stumble some more.

I think Texas is the real deal. UTEP, Rice and the other blowout games anyone could have done and we have been doing it every year for the past 10 years. But you can't deny at all that Oklahoma is damn good. And Texas went toe to toe with them and came out on top. Vince Young did not win that game. The team won the game. That was by far the best college football game I have seen in a while. It was a total back and fourth battle. All the games ahead will be tough...Mizzou, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. If Texas loses to one, at least they lose to a good team. Unlike USC who got beat Oregon State (who?) but they are still hanging around the top 5 just because they are media darlings. They're the Dallas Cowboys of college football. If Texas lost to Oregon State they would get bumped to #10+.

Oklahoma State was Mizzou's first real test. They looked terrible. Could have been just "one of those days". We will see Saturday. If they play like that against Texas, they are going to get beat. Some might come down to Texas' crappy offensive coordinator Greg Davis. I HATE that guy. His calls are too conservative. He seemed to let loose on Oklahoma for once. If he gets conservative with the next three teams, we can get beat.

I think it is safe to say that if they can go undefeated it will be Texas / TT vs. Alabama. If they cannot go undefeated PSU has a chance if they can go undefeated. My guess is that we will have one undefeated team in the championship game (from the Big 12), and they will win the NC. So congrats to TExas for winning the National Championship! My guess is that they will end up playing USC.
It is going to be another year of many high ranked teams losing to seemingly low powered opponents.
    GO CANES!

I'm still thinkin' it's gonna be hard for an 12-0/13-0 team showing up in January for the BCS Championship game, let alone TWO...

A one-loss conference champion (12-1) from the Big 12 & SEC holds merit over one-loss teams from other 'power' conferences such as the Pac 10 & Big 10, this season (IMHO).

Texas is hittin' on just about all cylinders, but in-state rivals tend to play the Longhorns tough in the past few years (A&M, TT, etc'). That's what irks moi' about Mack. He should've/could've/would've this-that in regards to Big 12 titles & national championship appearances, as well as BCS bowl invites. That's where Petey Carrol has been prolific. . .

Penn State has fielded some stellar teams the past few seasons only to lose winnable games vs. Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan St, Wisconsin, and others. They gotta get over the hump, or be happy in happy-valley w/ their top-10 ranking.

'SC is still a juggernaut, and they're generally praised/ranked & maligned/admonished because of that... not for the games they win or who they beat. They play exciting football on both ends of the line of scrimmage, have game-breaking play-makers, and potential All-Americans on the bench. They remind me of a Great White Shark, rows & rows of serrated, razor-sharp teeth, super-imposed over eac-other... when one falls-out, another is pushed right into the spot seamlessly w/o missing a beat.

With all that said, losin' to mediocre mid-pack conference 'mates is unacceptable for a presumed national championship contender. Oh gawd is it lame to see the fly-by-nite 'SC fans nation-wide as well as in SoCal'. Ugh, I'm sure the BoSox & Celtics feel the same way, w/ band-wagon 'chic legions of followers. . .

I'm still very curious to see how 'Bama continues to roll, so to speak. The talent & discipline/dedication is there. With confidence, they can go far. However, the SEC has literally a handful of teams that can step up & claim the throne this season... makes for exciting times if you're in the hunt!

And the champs from the ACC & Big (L)East will meet in the Charmin Toilette Bowl this season... :D
