Canning the coach mid-season, either the team can rebound & show promise (unlikely) or the team can tank and disintegrate (more likely). No respect for Big Bobby's kin, apparently. Mebbe' they should hire Terry Bowden! I actually think he's a good coach & prominent enough name to recruit, rather surprised he hasn't stepped back onto the sidelines at a renowned program... or did he have the pipe-dream of succeeding Daddy @ Tallahassee? I know he was linked/referenced for the WV job, late last season after Rodriguez jumped ship for Ann Arbor. . .
I'd like to say a few about mine, but momma always said, if you can't say something nice... As far as the state of Alabama is concerned, so far this year seems to be shaping up like 1992. If it works out that way, Bama gets a national championship this year, and we get a new coach and an undefeated season next year. I may have to pronounce myself a Bama fan for the rest of the season.
This year Texas A&M is complete and utter crap and there is no possible way that team will beat us in Austin. Texas Tech is going to be a high scoring game especially since we're in Lubbock. That being said I think their defense is miles behind us even tho we have multiple freshman starting in the secondary. Missouri should be a test this weekend but after the performance they gave on Saturday in their own stadium I'm not as scared as I was a week ago. Honestly I think the games we are most likely to lose would be to OSU or Kansas. OSU has something this year, I can't specify it but it's pretty impressive, however if they can't get over their fourth quarter screw ups we should pull out this win. The only reason I say Kansas may take us down is because we have a habit of blowing it to mediocre teams and it's an away game. Honestly I was looking towards next year for us to make a run towards the NC and am a bit surprised with our performances to date. In the last two seasons we've been let down towards the final stretch but we also didn't start out the year very strong in both occasions. We started out very strong this year and Saturday we certainly outplayed and outperformed OU. If we can go into the rest of the season with the mindset that we marching into the Cotton Bowl with we just might make a trip to Miami this year.
I am still not saying a word. Remember 1984? Auburn was top notch and we sucked so bad that we didn't go to a bowl for the first time since the 50's. Hell froze over and we won the Iron Bowl. It's stuff like that that scares me to half to death right now
TT is the biggest FRAUD in college football.. I keep reading about how great their offense is - against 1-AA opponents, for the most part. A very unorganized, undisciplined and outmanned Nebraska team almost beat them - and should have - at TT's home.
SEC is 4-0 in BCS national championship games ? Why limit yourself to just BCS championship games ?? As far as naming off all the contests you did, does it matter ? We could go back a few years and pull out a whole bunch of SEC teams that were supposed to win games - and didn't - but you still have to WIN those games. Now, am I saying if you put the top Big-12 teams against the top SEC teams that the Big-12 would win ? Of course not. We don't KNOW who would win. Sure - Bama is hot - this year - and maybe next year also, after that, then what ? What if Bama's QB goes down next week ? Will that be an excuse ?? It shouldn't be, if they are 'that' great. Listen, there is no denying (now) that Saban is a great coach - and he's doing it with guys he didn't even recruit, which makes it sweeter. Comparing College players that turned pro - which ones are busts - happens every year, my friend, ALL schools have had a star/can't miss top-2 round player go to the pros and never make it, that's nothing new. (insert the name of any Penn State RB here, or Miami QB over the last 20 years) It's just a shame some folks have to start comparing apples to oranges, apples to apples, etc. instead of just watching the sport for what it is - a damned GAME.
Bama is playing 15 freshmen this year. The reason Bama is as good as they are in Saban's second year is because of his instant-impact recruiting. SEC is a little down this year. Big XII looks pretty competitive in-conference. SEC still is, but the parody in all of college ball is apparent these days. Anyone can beat anyone from week to week.
Parody or parity? The former is watching Michigan this season or A&M/Arkansas/others w/ new coaches; the latter is the Big East & ACC (thus far, each-other beating up each-other). SEC still has 2-3 elite teams that can be rockin' the polls in late November, IMHO. Even though it's mid-October, a presumed front-runner ('Bama? Florida? LSU? Georgia?) can still be a non-factor come the end of the season w/ some interesting match-ups still to come!
Top notch is a bit of a stretch. An 8-4 season is mediocre at best - but I understand how you feel. Going into the weekend I wasn't able to turn my head away from the train wreck - but I've finally been able to do it. As a result, my weekends are now free as well. Just canceled my trip to Morgantown and am debating on whether to head to Auburn on November 15th. Maybe if I stop watching it will get better.
I've had a problem from the beginning of the year with the proclaimed dominance of the SEC this year. That was occurring when all the teams were ranked, but it was because they hadn't played each other yet. The best case scenario was only one would come out without a loss. Most have now taken a loss, and now its the Big12 (South's) turn. They're now starting to play each other and in the end there can be only one undefeated in these conferences. At the end of the year we will know who the dominant conference is - until then, this is all just rhetoric.
lol, +1, however they can get right back in the hunt with a win against texas this saturday, and if chase can put up big numbers, he should become a top runner for the heisman again.
I think Mizzou getting back into the top 5 is doable, but I think McDaniels is done for the Heisman after his last performance.
...Well, not really. This was sent to me today and is going around if you have not seen it, and is shared in good fun. It's a top level meeting at Auburn University to discuss a certain firing.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi7Qlsy2Oo4
