Well I went out and bought it yesterday. Can't seem to put it down. So far I have done the NA challenge and finished first. I am going to start the European Challenge now and see what happens. I will say the only driving aide I use is the driving line all the other ones seem to be pointless. Plus the car handles and feels more like a real 430 challenge with all the aides off.

Before you enter each race, you will see on the top (right side of the screen I think) the status of the race i.e. Wet or Dry - thus allowing you to prep the car before entering the race.

I have the Playstation 2 version, since the only current gen system I have is the XBox 360, and I'm enjoying it a lot. It's pretty tough, but I'm not having all that much trouble keeping the car on the track with the regular PS2 controller, perhaps because I've already played the previous Ferrari Challenge game on the PS2, Sega/AM2's tough-as-nails Ferrari F355 Challenge: Passione Rossa, a slightly-enhanced port of the Dreamcast game (which I also have), which itself was a port of the Sega arcade game, one of the sim-iest arcade racers in history. I find the F430 in this game controls very similarly to the F355 in the old Sega game when played on a PS2 controller.

Also, due to the surface-only damage, you can rank in the top three without trying too hard, as long as you don't mind swapping a little more paint than you would if you were an actual F430 Challenge driver.

Does anyone have the Nintendo DS version? I got it for my birthday. It's obviously grossly simplified compared to the home console versions, and there are only 8 tracks (with the only licensed tracks being Monza, Mugello, and, of course, Ferrari's own Fiorano test track, which is used as an actual racing circuit here), but the graphics, while not too detailed, are silky smooth for a DS racer, the car handles as well as possible with the plus-shaped d-pad, and it's a fun way to kill time while on the bus or stuck in a hospital waiting room.

I bought my DS Lite in crimson red and stuck on the Scuderia Ferrari shield logo and the Shell Oil logo from the 2008 Shell Ferrari Motorsports sticker set to accentuate the Ferrari Challenge experience.

One race weekend before the end of Italian Challenge suddenly my steering wheel acts totally weird: It now rotates all 540 (?) degrees and it needs a lot of turning to move the car around. Also when going into a turn it feels the car is towing a heavy boat and snaps from oversteer to understeer and back. Almost impossible to control.

This is rather frustrating as I was leading the season, but now it looks like it is all over.

I think it is not a hardware issue, but something about the steering wheel driver that went belly up.

Ideas? And yes I have rebooted, but that didn't help.

One more item I forgot to add. When I took delivery of my FC game, I also was able to obtain this double sided sign hanging in the store. I figure this would be perfect for a game room. (if I ever have enough room & time to build one.)

Just played F1CE and realized how simple that game is in comparison to the Challenge game: After having gotten used to sensitive drift angles and little traction, I was driving circles around the other F1 cars.

Also we had a real gokart race over the weekend on a very slippery surface. It felt easy in comparison to Trofeo Pirelli. And yes I do believe one can hone his reflexes on a video game like this. It worked for me. :)

Nice... I remember having a magazine ad (I still have it somewhere) for the Sega Dreamcast game Ferrari F355 Challenge... it said something like "Race the car you can't afford to own"... :D

That was, like, 10 years ago.. :)

Picked this up a couple weeks ago for PS3 and really enjoy it. Pretty good graphics, and I like the exterior car damage being visible. I'm a huge fan of the Gran Turismo series and find this to be different experience than I get from those games.

I haven't been able to read all the posts in the thread, but if there's a FChat race night, I'd love to join in online! :)

I have both the Dreamcast version and the PS2 port of Sega/AM2/Yu Suzuki's Ferrari F355 Challenge. I'm enjoying the new System 3/Activision Ferrari Challenge game on the PS2, but, honestly, 1-to-1, on the same system using the exact same controller, I still give the old Sega game the edge for difficulty and for the feeling of being truly in control of a car (as close as you can get using a gamepad, at least) as opposed to just a videogame representation of a car.

And, aside from a couple of instances of "tree wallpaper", the graphics still hold up reasonably well for a game that was originally in arcades in 1999. They obviously don't have the state-of-the-art ray-traced particles lighting and shadow effects of a modern game like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, but they're still quite eye-pleasing with all of the intense saturated colours, especially the tracks with the sunsets. And I'm not sure about the framerate, but it's got to be at least a consistent 30 fps, as the motion looks super fluid compared to most other racing games of the era.

Does anyone know when new downloadable content is available for the game? I really want some new cars to race like the Enzo or something.

I checked with System 3, the DLC is only available in Europe and should be out within a couple of weeks in North America. It will have the Enzo, P4, 430 Scuderia, 599 GTB, 612 as well as one race track; Nurburgring. It's price is about $8.00.

Ok, I know I'm reviving an old thread but here goes. I have the game with a PS3, G25. Is there anyone that has any tips on how to get the front end of the 430 challenge to work better? It understeers like a pig. Should I turn down all assists, soften springs, ride height, etc? I did Silverstone with the 355 challenge and handles like a dream once you get used to it. I tried it again, thinking I had learned the circuit a bit better, with the 430 and it feels terrible. I can't do any better than 4th and the front guys are pulling away and the guys behind me are close on my tail. This is after qualifiying 6th. Any ideas? It stinks that you can't play with the set up on time trial mode.

P.S. To some of the guys complaining about Ricard, I freaking hate it too. I was lucky to win there in the rain in arcade mode but it was only after a pretty hard move at the last corner, hehehe...:)

You should set the assists to about half their value and use a soft setup (springs etc). Speedy_Sam has posted his setup in this thread, I'm using it too with success.

Paul Ricard is horrible with all those unnatural chicanes. But there is one track even worse in the NA series. I don't know it IRL, but it is an endless series of turn after turn after turn. Can't even memorize it. I think it is made up.

For some reason, the two long right handers at Ricard get me every damned time. I just lose all sorts of time there. I dread Ricard every time I have to do it. I was able to win the Italian challenge but Ricard almost lost it for me. Thanks for the tip, i'll look for sam's setup in the thread.

You have to be talking about VIR. And it does exsist. http://www.virclub.com/the-track/

Ok, I used Sam's set-up, but for Silverstone I went full hard on the front and it seemed to work. I won the first race by 20 secs. and the second by 30. I went back to full soft for Spa and got pole and won both races. I tried the hard front set-up for Ricard and I got pole for that too. I also must admit that I set the option for beginner instead of dynamic, but I'm going to change it back, after Ricard of course. I wonder if it's made the game too easy now. I still hate that track. Thanks guys.

If anyone wants a PS3 version of the game I'll sell it for $30 including shipping in the US. Used price is $44.99 at Gamestop.
