I don't think he meant the interior.

Pretty much, last I heard the Vspec with stripped interior, better tyres, CC brakes, more power etc etc can only get 7:25 around the ring.

Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing............................

Why would this be a good thing? If Porsche can see b/s, smell b/s then why not call it out for what it is? With Ferrari and Chevy Porsche can actually drive those examples close to manufacturer time and so hasnt called them out. With Nissan Porsche along with many other people simply cant replicate or even come close to the 7:29 time.

It stops all the bull**** "sour grapes" style condemnation Porsche is receiving. The earliest articles attribute the statements to August Achleitner and not to Porsche. I don't think Porsche decided to do this as a company, I think August Achleitner shot his mouth off at a press event and now Porsche is dealing with the consequences. If Porsche wanted to make a deal out of this they should have done the run themselves several times over varying track conditions and with Rohrl at the wheel. Then they'd have invited some magazines out, done the run again with their driver and made the GT-R and a few Porsches available to the journalists and let them do their thing. Instead the "bomb" gets dropped at the end of the driving season in Germany and Nissan gets to come out and say "oh we did it alright, Aren't we just badass, didn't know those German boys can't drive." Meanwhile it will be several months before any kind of event could be staged, an event that likely won't get staged, and Porsche is going to eat negative press. Nissan is going to get "the car that Porsche had to buy" kudos for the next decade over this even if Porsche is vindicated in the coming months. By all means, call out Nissan for lying if you've got a case. But this wasn't the way to do it.

I've bolded the last bit because I'd love any kind of links or article references that show people having trouble getting the stated performance figures for the GT-R. So far as I've read it is living up to Nissan's statements.

Sorry in advanced if this is in the wrong area...if so then please move this post to it's correct place.

    http://carsguide.news.com.au/site/motoring-news/story/porsche_accuses_nissan_of_cheating_at_nurburgring/

    http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/did-nissan-cheat-gt-r-nurburgring-record/

The 2 links above provide information about the GT-R's lap time around the ring. Porsche is questioning if Nissan cheated.

Good and interesting info to read....thought everyone would like to see it if it hasn't already been posted which I couldn't find.

Also here's a link about Nissan hitting back at Porsche's claims about this.

    http://carsguide.news.com.au/site/motoring-news/story/nissan_hits_back_at_porsche_cheat_claim/

So what does everyone think about this?

    Enjoy.

I didn't mean the interior, only exterior, although the 'Vette's interior can certainly be improved...but so can an F40's...;)

Driver is 4 times F1 champion Alain Prost who didnt like the GTR's handling and didnt believe it could ever achieve the lofty time of 7:29. Please tell me why you think Tochio Suzuki is a better driver than the great Alain Prost.

The 944 in the late 80s' was named the "best handling car" in a series of Car and Driver tests...the next battle between these 2 will be: "Which car is uglier, the new Panamera or the GTR"?

Wonder if the Porsche Group will try this with a test copy of the new ZR1 as well?

It is supposed to do at least a 7:26 in the right hands - let's let Prost have a go!

Early prophecy for the GT-R transmission:
    http://www.themotorreport.com.au/4464/the-flawless-gt-r-has-a-fault/

    The beginnings of the problems:
    http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=25361

Would any of us buy a car, advertised by all the car mags, as having launch control with incredible times (and little to no mention of limits, at least outside of the owner manual and not advertised by Nissan) like this without ringing it out some? I feel sorry for this guy. I think this DSG transmission is the weak link (achilles heel) of the GT-R and will fail not just with too many launches but too many track day events and ultimately with just normal spirited driving over a short interval. Perhaps you get what you pay for. But why buy this car if you cannot take advantage of its abilities.
No talk of the problems with launch control in this video:

I finished up reading this link that I got off another automotive forum. A nice rational take on the situation I think. Also Top Gear has said "There’s only one way to settle this. The Stig." Which bodes well for all of us.

Car and Driver, in a recent edition, also mentioned that their test car was a ringer, having more than 100 bhp quoted measured on a private dyno.

Thats not a ringer, manufacturers have been doing it for years, they advertise the car at a lower power level. All the GTRs will much higher than the 480hp they "have" suggests.

There is no logical reason for a manufacturer to claim such a vastly lower output.

Of more concern is the gearbox being as durable as abox of potato chips. At least a Pcar stays together.

A one lap wonder means crap, the Nissan may be a great street car, its weight negates repeated laps and now the gearbox well........ its off my list

Frankly it would be hard to beat a Gt3 or the Zr1, yes they have two seats, but if it is a 4 seater then it is nor really a track machine so a M3 or caddy vspec is more than can be used on the road.

I agree with you. But indeed it has been happening for years for some reason almost all of the cars have turbos.
