Miura, the original supercar

Interesting car. I hope if it is fiddled with, they do it gently to keep as many original features as possible. That said, I'd love to get my hands on the seat material if it were replaced.

I just noticed the alligator skin footrest for the passenger. Classic!

 

Anyone have a source for new V or Z-rated tires for the 9" rears? I've got plenty of older tires, but I'd like to see about getting a new tire on the car.

 

Nice car Marcel, I like seeing the patina and details of an unrestored car. Do you have any more pictures you can share? I had not seen the paint code sticker on a car before. Am I correct in assuming all the P400's had this sticker when they left the factory? Are these stickers available?

5092, Ex-Walter & Barbara Wolf, factory Museo car.

 

The blue car is now in California with Simon D... 4692 I believe.

 

PPG's Milano-based Italver Co supplied the paint on the cars as applied at Bertone SpA's Grugliasco plant. I have seen these stickers randomly applied to Miuras from P400 through P400SV. Maybe it was a case of if the rep was there that day he slapped a set on (both sides). They are stamped with the car's PPG paint code number - effectively meaningless to you & I today. These are also used by Ferraris of the period and other Italian makes Im sure.

I have always recorded their mounting positions as fore of the leading edge of the doors, just as shown in both examples on this page.

Here are the ones on my 4884 taken today. The originals could not survive the restoration so vintage Ferrari parts specialist Parker Hall supplied these. Don't know if he still has them but he is at (601) 638 7856, which is the only way to contact him. You can see the sticker on the green car above was removed at one point and subsequently re-applied.

Look how many shades of red PPG provided Bertone for use on FIATs circa 1968 to 1973. Some of these same colors were given different names for Lamborghini and used on the Miura...

Hard to find something as subjective as color. You would think it would be simpler than it is.

Just go into a paint store and ask for white.

My observation has been that these are pretty rare to see on Miura's today. Even most untouched cars I've seen don't have them, so I would bet that they were rarely applied as Joe indicates.

However even some of the so-called survivor cars have in fact been repainted at some point.

When I got 4884 it had its original thin lacquer paint, going away on most parts of the body. Of course, this was courtesy of one man's ownership for 30 years. He never messed with his cars, and never even showed them. He just drove & maintained...

 

My car supports this, I just took a close look at it. There is no trace of a sticker ever being there, no shadow, no scratches, no rub marks etc. If there was a sticker there it was removed very early in the cars life, before the glue on the back dried out.

Original paint on it?

 

Yes, however the bonnet has been repainted. None of the people who have know the car since new are aware of any paint work being done on the car. Some photos from the 1973 time frame indicate the bonnet was painted prior to that (one license plate hole filled in and mirrors removed). Makes me wonder if it was damaged in shippment and repaired at the dealer (common at that time).

Just posted this in the Rocky Mountian section...

I am looking for some history on the car below. Mr. Kemp the original owner had the car from 1968 until he passed away in 2004. During this time he lived in Salt Lake City and liked to show the car. I found a ticket in the car from the 1996 Concours d’Elegance at the Salt Lake City County Senior Citizen’s Recreation Center. I am hoping some enthusiasts here remember the owner and the car. I would appreciate any stories and photos you would be willing to share. In the photo below is the owner, am I told this picture was taken as part of a photo shoot when the car was used in an advertisement in the early 70's; unfortunately I do not what the ad was for.
