I'm meeting my dealer next Wednesday to finalise the specification for my 599 arriving next May. Here's where I'm at right now with comments Rosso Corsa with Nero leather BAC1 - Leather seat backs - unsure about this. Configurator says stock seat backs are carbon but I thought thought they were covered in black vinyl? CALR - Rosso Corsa calipers - black might look a little more subtle LOGO - Scuderia shields MIR1 - Electrochromatic mirror NAV4 - Navigation system PAR2 - Front and rear parking sensors RIM4 - Monolithic 20" Wheels - maybe ball polished? RSFE - Full electric Recaro seats RUF1 - Leather roof lining - may have in grey to lighten interior SHF1 - Leather rear shelf - unsure whether carpet back wall and shelf might be more practical SND4 - Bose hifi STC1 - Red stitching Not the slightest bit interested in iPod feature. Did I miss anything? Would be interested in comments regarding comments in italics.
Keep the CF seat back. Lose the Nav. Didn't order one with mine and have heard it is pretty useless unless they have made major changes since 07. Definately add the Ball polished challenge rims. Go with Daytona seats with inserts. A much better look and better for resale. Parking sensors? Makes me think I'm driving a minivan. But like everything else a personal choice and personal comfort level. Whatever you decide I'm sure you will be happy with it.
FWIW I think Leather seat backs look really good. Mine are in Tan and show really well from outside the car through the large rear window. Seeing as your seats are black the black carbon back might look nice. The NAV system is simply the biggest POS you can imagine. You are far better off with a TomTom 930 with US and Euro maps built in. It's portable, unobtrusive and a million times more functional than the Ferrari Bose or Becker unit they currently use IMO 20" inch wheels look really good but don't polish them The leather rear shelf is a waste. It also is highly reflective at night from headlights of following cars. The carpet is a much more practical option The Bose HIFI is also a POS. Rather delete the entire radio option and fit a good aftermarket Clarion or something else with sat radio. The Ferrari price for the Bose system is also three times what a good aftermarket system will cost Everything else sounds really good. Just a final note. You are in Europe and unlike the US you can order the factory harness belts. I feel much more secure in a harness than a three point belt, especially if you get to drive on unlimited roads Enjoy the process. The car itself is absolutely stunningly good. It is the best car Ferrari have ever made.
Forgot to add one more thing. Since it wasn't on your list, i just didn't think of it. Got to have the CF driving zone with the red rev lights. I wasn't sure I would like it when I ordered it . Thought it might be a little over the top. But it is really a nice toy to have. I love seeing that thing lite up when I hit six thousand revs and watch it spike when I ride it up to eight thousand before I reach for that higher gear. Between the lites and the 12 cyl. 612 hp engine screaming at eight K in your ears. I gaurantee you will look for an opportunity to ride a gear as high as you can, whenever you can.
Rosso corsa is a pure Ferrari color, it was also my choice. I have to agree with every body here about the Nav and Boss radio, it is worthless. I orderd it and could not deal with the navigation and ended up using a tom tom portable device which is great. the rear shelf and wall in leather will add luxury and refinment to your car, I would keep that. driving zone carbon with led steering is a must have. Dytona style seats are stunning and will give your car a traditional Ferrari feel. I chose special red stitching which gives you a thicker thread and looks much better and more sporty. I agree that red break callipers can be too much, go for aluminum colored , much better than black. dont forget the parking sensors, they are very important to avoid bumping into low objects and the car is big and not easy to park! the custom name plate is also a nice personal touch, take it if you plan on keeping the car for long. enjoy this phase, its the begining of a wonderfull journey.
If you do get the radio, which I dont recommend, please get the i-pod connection, it is the only part of this POS that atually works. In addition to being a POS the underlying problem with the radio is that it works from menus and play lists but you cant see any of the info when it is daylite. There is one setting that allows you to dial the radio from station to station like an old time radio but it too works from some kind of playlist or memorised stations and also has to be reset each time, as far as I can tell. The instruction manual for the "radio" is about 150 pages and tells you how to customise things no one I know cares about. I also vote for the leather n the back, but not the CF door panels . In spite of the radio it is a great car. Malcolm
I have the Nav; it's perfectly functional but of course does not display maps, just arrows. If you get the Bose unit be sure to bookmark the thread where Scott from LaJolla Audio describes the method for overriding the preset, non-adjustable equalization settings. It's a must.
