Is it jest me......maybe I am OCD, but it drives me nuts when I see posts with wurds mispeld!

Iz it that we are too busy, or typing two fast, or unedukated?

If we have taken the time in our personal and business life to suckceed and purchase a Ferrari, I would think we could spell right and use grammer good.

Du you tend to diskount a posters opinyon if their are mispelt wurds in the post?

    Only with this post.....

Seriously when I see blatant spelling issues or posts with blatant punctuation issues, I usually ignore them.

Im a terrible speller. i also type fast leading to occasionally switching letters like 'fo' instead 'of' and I usually skip apostrophes and dont bother much with capitalizing.

I guess that explains why Im so unsuccessful.

P.S. what you are describing in your post isnt misspelling as much as internet ghetto spelling...sort of like saying 'tru dat', even though we all know its 'true that'.

I agree with the original poster--misspelled words by Ferrari owners are somewhat surprising, and way too common on F-Chat. I've always been a stickler for correct spellings-I won a 2nd grade spelling bee!

    (to/too.....brakes/breaks...etc.)

Forgiveness is given to "English is a second language" posters!

I think the extra effort to spell correctly shows a commitment to take yourself seriously.

I've never chimed in so as not to offend anybody....but....

    since you brought it up!

    :)

(if i misspelled any words here, please let me know!) :)

I was gypped in the 8th grade spelling bee. The word was "infectious", and the announcer pronounced it as "infectUous" with an obvious "U" sound where the "I" should have been. I knew how to spell "infectious" but their mispronunciation made me doubt myself so I spelled it with a U, even knowing that it was wrong. That was a bunch of BS... they should have given me a different word.

I'm an excellent speller. Any problems are virtually always only typos, not spelling problems. But if I worried about spelling and punctuation, I'd be spending more time trying to correct that, than what I'm really here for. So don't worry about it.

I agree. Furthermore, I believe that effort shows respect to the reader. A rushed message riddled with errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar may save the author effort, but requires more effort from the reader to try to determine the intent of the message; all too often, significantly more effort. Taking the time to ensure your message can be easily read and understood indicates a consideration and respect for the reader. Not doing so sends a message along the lines of, "My time is more valuable than yours".

Spelling is fine, but you overlooked capitalizing a few words. Also, an ellipsis is composed of three dots - not two, not four, not any quantity other than three. Ellipses are frequently misrepresented these days. Werd. :)

I actually notice that I pay FAR more attention to my English than to my German spelling. Posting on FChat, I re-read every post twice before submitting it, fearing that I misspelled something so badly that it becomes something gross or aggressive in English :)

Spelling and grammar are horrible these days. I had a kid who is a total Mac-addict turn in a letter of resignation last spring. 8 misspellings. Hello? Spell check? Another brief hire of ourz wuzz 1 of theez guyz who alwayz uzez a "z" inztead of an "s". Here's a little tip to those of you who say "Who cares?": If you ever apply for a job, you will be judged by your grammar. If you're an adult with poor grammar, then read some more books.

If you ignore people based just on their spelling, then you'll be ignoring a lot of people and a lot of people will be ignoring you. Spelling is important as well as grammar but it's not the end of the world.

Try reading a police report---I think cops are the worst spellers in the world. I told my squad I was going to start circling every grammar error and mispelled word in red ink on reports they turn in.... In our world, those reports reflect on them and they don't understand it...

I sometimes make a mistake, but not often...

    I just hate bad speling.

    Steve,

Not really a slow day, but this topic has been bothering me for some time. Not that I am any great Enlgish teacher, but I just think it shows respect for the reader when we put some thought into it. I don't think we are a bunch of teenagers texting each other here.

Oh, and by the way, it is penmAnship, not penmEnship..........hehehe.
