Ferrari still has a chance for the manufacturer's championship. The Lizards took team and driver at Petit. Qualifying is this afternoon somewhere about the 3 pm time (don't have sked accessible right now). Go to www.radiolemans.com or www.imsaracing.net for more information and for live qualifying. Remember, this series has only 20 minute periods and it's all for one and one for all - no knockouts. Ferraris running this weekend are RISI, Tafel, JMB (from Europe). Fantastic circuit with lots of action. Audi has given one of it's seats this weekend to one of the Audi "new drivers" - Christijan Albers - he's driving with Pirro. Luhr and Werner in other car. Interestingly enough this is a special weekend for deFerran - celebration of his first win in NA many years ago, last race of his first ALMS season with Acura in P2 and after this race, Sebring will be the first race of his new adventure in ALMS with Acura in P1. What excitement! On a sad note, (especially for us) is this is Mika's last race with Risi.... perhaps he'll rethink NASCAR and come back. Off to CA in a bit. (race is tomorrow but will be aired on Sunday) Carol
Mika Salo can not go to NASCAR. This is crazy. Unbelievable. No way! Maybe he should have talked to Dario. A Risi 430 to the COT. Not even for the $$. No way. This can't be happening.
+1. first, why does Mika need money? Second, he could talk to Dario, or JV, or Hornish, or Anthony Lazarro, or.....
Last night I could hear the cars on the track after dark or close to it. I live 2.2 miles from the track and seeing the Rahal straight and listening to the sound of race cars from my deck, is pure heaven.
That's awesome, It would be a great sound to fall asleep to! I'm at work right now listening to qualifying. Had no idea radiolemans even existed. I haven't followed this season as well as I usually do so thanks for posting that link.
That has got to be sweet living that close to Laguna. Atleast you love the sounds rather than B!tch about it. I will be down ther around 8am at the track. Bringing the wife with me. She will probably be helping out in the Paddock as I will be off shooting pics most of the day when not working the paddock. Which reminds me, I need to clear out my Memory Card. I'll probably get a hotel room in Salinas. I would rather do that than drive home late. Don't feel like camping over night this time. Then the wife and I could run around the area on Sunday. I can't wait!!!!!
nothing ofically announced only speculation in autosport article cuz he was talking to folks at a race As Hindy said yesterday he has three options and it would be major loss to sport if one of those was to decide to stay home Pirro was interviewed after qualifying about those being last race. It was an awesome interview Michael all three Spyders ran qualify with the wheel shrouds interesting discussion in that there are only seven of them that exist the Captain has three Carol
Here's the wheel Carol speaks of. Penske was testing them at Petite but did not race with them. Hoping you have your rubber shoes on. Image Unavailable, Please Login
thanks for photo. Yes have rubber shoes on. Chris here but not Josephine fortunately fires not affecting her grapes. She didn't come off to track beautiful here at beach in Marina. Gonna be great race.
The BJ auction live instead of the ALMS rcae live. Speed TV (or should I call it nASScrap-vision) sucks...
Great to the end despite numerous cc cautions. Talked to Mika after race they did very well even with broken wishbone - said that cost them first. Got a great big hug from Emanuele in autograph line - his last r10 race. This could have been the last race for the RS Spyder and R10. Concgatulations definitely in order for Allan as he was named ALMS Driver of the Decade - very deserving. Now it's time to get on with 2009! Carol
Good for Alan. His win at Petite from 2 laps down was stunning. Ask Cristen Klien. Laguna will replay on NBC at 2M, ET today. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The NBC coverage of this race was pathetic. How often did the fat guy with no neck claim that there were four classes of cars racing together? Dallenbach is useless, he should retire to 7-11. The only shining light in that show was Mr. Fish. I couldn't take it any more, so I changed the channel and deleted the show.
we didn't record it - glad we heard it live from Hindy. Guess Speed was too busy with the overpriced car auction fanatics in Las Vegas....sounds like Calvin Fish saved the day for the coverage... Johnny O'Connell was interviewed and had an absolutely priceless comment about what he would do with the track if someone would just give him a front end loader! I was scanning some freqs and Mika said one time the circuit was like driving a rally course. Who was the fat guy with no neck?? Carol
Had a blast! The wife & I got home a few hours ago. 1st time at an ALMS Race. It was fantastic. Got to meet several drivers during Autograph Session. Frank Montagny & Tony Kanaan were cool! Gil de Ferran cool as well. Mika Salo was great! Asked him jokingly when he was going to go back to F1 and he chuckled a bit and said "I'm getting to old for that!" Christian Albers did a great job with Audi. Amazing how well some of the former F1 drivers do when they go somehwere else. Have 1 Question Why was the GT1 3rd place team Disqualified???? I'm asking because we were able to go up on the Podium later in the evening for the Panoz Team and met the owner and watched the victory celebration as the crew from the track helped them out with the celebration and fireworks. Pretty cool! The Team Owner was an absolutely great to have met. Came out to the Paddock team and gave them a very nice gift. Had to leave to take his drivers and a few others to dinner, but came back later to hang out. I had already left by then. My highlite was when on the gridwalk, I asked Mika Salo if I could get a picture with him. As I was attempting to hand my camera to a the pit worker next to him he said to give it to another pit worker on the wall. The guy grabs my camera, then starts to run away into the crowd. Then Mika tells me - "Sorry! I forgot the man is French." Yes the guy did come back and take our picture. My other highlite was that I shot over 1000 pictures. Can't wait to go through them all.
This is the second time this year they've been DQ'd. First was at Salt Lake City last May. Here's the reason this time: The post-race technical inspection found the car to be lower than the required ride height and it was excluded from race results. The cars right-front spring perch had loosened during the first hour of the race, collapsing the spring and dropping the right front of the car below the required ride height. This race had several suspension problems - Jon was leading P1 when they had a broken wishbone - fixed but laps down; Jorge was leading GT2 - broken tie-rod (got to had to to the crew for having a front axel at pit wall, replacing suspension w/o going behind the wall) and wishbone issue for #62. Now the "silly season" commences for ALMS. Will Dyson stay with the dying RS Spyders or go with a Lola coupe? Will AGR still be around with Acura in P2? Will Audi have the R15 in ALMS? Will Penske stay but in P1 or go to Rolex? Tafel already has a confirmed driver(s) for next season. What will happen after LeMans when Corvette becomes GT2 (cubic dollars) - will they dominate GT2? Another Radical diesel for Sebring. Lots of "what-if's" and "food for thought" for the next several months until Sebring. Here's the link for Sebring tickets NOW ON SALE - http://www.sebringraceway.com/tickets_sebring.lasso Carol
HPD's head (Eric Bertman?) was on Wind Tunnel last night, pimping the new P1 coupe Acura is running. P1 will be pretty interesting next season. P2 will only have 1 Acura w/ Fernandez Racing (so far, working on a 2nd) and possibly no Porsches. That would be a shame. I hope Dyson sticks with it, what about a team like Intersport? I'd rather win in P2 than run around the back in P1.
