    Hello !

beside the red and white Countach "Pace Cars" there was a yellow 5000S as well on the circuit.

There exists a video of the 1982 Grand Prix in Monaco while the ILOC meeting where the club was generously invited by Mr. Mimran.

Will check to post maybe a .MPG sequence.

    Best regards,

    Stefan

LOL? Well...1977 was a long time ago and by the looks of your profile photo, either you were in diapers or not around. Fact is, Federalization and DOT laws at that time on exotics were very strict, also as you can see in the photos, the car is pure Euro spec'd, with no US version side marker lamps, etc. The owner was in trouble at the time with the IRS and the car was found to have been imported without being converted.

Thanks for the compliment ;) I was 24 in 1977.

The owner may very well have had IRS trouble that resulted in some snooping around his "Grey Market" car. Typically from what I recall, in those days, if the car made it off the dock and got licensed somewhere, you were "home free". I remember licensing some homebuilts with nothing more than an engine serial number and a rough estimate of value. That can't happen today.

If that's you in the Roadster pic...well I must say you've aged well! 55 and a girlfriend too...congratulations / it also says something about bringing back the dead? ha ha, Yea, I don't know where the car came in from, maybe Canada?

    Thanks for posting these DiabloSE30!

The car imaged is the aforementioned 1120036 in its one-and-only fabulous light yellow with brown livery. You'll note the unique mounting position of its driver door mirror, at the base of one of the window cross-members.

At any rate, this car came in to the USA in late 1974 via LAX (Los Angeles) and there wasn't much if anything to do by way of body modification in order to be certified for EPA/DOT. I think the owner of the time was adding to the car's flair for drama by stating that it was illegal (by 1977 though requirements had tightened and some cars were being impounded or being return-shipped), if indeed you were in fact talking to the actual owner. This car was here and plated (as you can see) and in the possession of the first owner, race team owner Carlton Beal, which may explain why it was at Road America.

This car is now red and for sale in California. Of interest, the car is noted as the first Countach to be imported into the USA by Lamborghini.

Joe, That's really weird...I was going to say at first that this may be 1120036? The gentleman in the sideways picture was the owner. He is wiping off the windscreen after the car alongside had caught fire! He was pissed! I gave him a t-shirt I had so he could wipe off the windows. After much chatting about our cars (I had a Pantera GTS at the time) and looking at his photo album of cars owned (Tremendous !) I nagged him enough to get a ride. I've said it before...there was and to this day, nothing in my automotive life that could compare to that car and that day. I was intoxicated by the thing! Thanks for bringing to light something that I never knew and now am a bit proud of...riding in the first Countach in America...in the day!

Incredible Monaco 84, I was there and it seems from your photo you were in the same balcony! Were you in the BMW France balcony on the first floor of the last building at the angle of turn one? Senna was flying but Bellof was even faster, truly a historic day.

By the way returning to topic have you seen the two, yes two Periscopas at Motorcar Gallery?!

    http://www.motorcargallery.com/

That is where I worked 3 years to earn my Khamsin but typcial of my luck not a single Countach there during my time...

    Best regards,

    Marc

Sigh. I'm in love with the blue/grey LP400 on their site. Anyone have $486K they want to donate to me?

That car was in front of my house earlier this year, visiting. It was red/black. When built, it was orange/white. Now its blue/grey. It was sold at Russo & Steele 2 months ago to the vendors for circa $335k.

The 1977 car they have is a much better one, once you get past the odd non-original mirrors and "pea-shooter" home-made Megaphone pipes. It is original & not too molested.

The car you like now has a non-original interior color trimmed in LP500S pattern with no mouse-hair dash.

It is a crime to change the colours of an orange/white car to red/black and, especially, to blue/grey. That blue is a non original colour, and no LP400 was delivered with grey interior.

I like any and all LP400, but prospective buyers need to know this stuff do they not?

I mean, when people hire me to find them one, they expect me to know EVERYTHING about the car's history. Including the assertion made by the knowledgeable enthusiast from its home country and the importer into the USA that this car does not have its original engine. I think thats all fair discussion. Not bashing the car in any way, just full & accurate disclosure. And its still a nice car for someone...

Frankly, I could live with the non original color, it looks fantastic. Of course this is all academic, unless someone steps up to the plate and gives me the $380 large needed to put the car in my garage so too can bytch about those people who have non-original colored cars.
