    I wish they would tell him to get lost, a spec series would what it would become, I am sure there are other ways of cost cutting. In addition, the revenue stream of the races is still going mostly to Eccelstone's organization as opposed to the teams.

    Just on a side topic, wasnt Mosely supposed to retire anyway in November of this year, or did he rescind on that promise?

    Did you guys see the 3 options Mad Max offered?

    The first two were standard engines made by a 3rd party. Nobody wants that.

    The last option was using the team's engines, but completely frozen in development.

    It's pretty obvious, what he wants: A total freeze on the development. Theoretically that was already in place, but some teams broke it (allegedly Ferrari and McLaren).

    The man and his tactics is such a tool. It is so easy to see right through the moron.

    To his credit he is, supposedly, open to suggestions.
    He should leave it to the teams to come up with an equitable solution not have one forced down their throats.

    Yes and no:

    The teams came up with a bunch of proposals, most of them to make the show better. One I really liked: 1 hour mandatory autograph session for all drivers on Friday. :)

    Max' goal is to reduce costs, but whose to say that is a good goal? I say it is a free market and let the strongest survive. Just allow for the small teams to buy a standard chassis and a B engine from one of the big teams (which is Max' 3rd option in essence). I have no problem with that. In fact I like to see many cars on track as long as the big boys can spend all the money they want.

    thats a really good one. compared to other sports, F1 drivers are probably the worst when it comes to fan interactions.

    Buy Chevy motors and put Ferrari, Renault, etc. valve covers and call it a day....it will help the US economy and take out some of the sting of not having a North American race...strict rules regarding aero ad ons, appendages, etc will greatly reduce development costs.

    Seriously, I seem to recall a motor by the name of Ford Cosworth that powered almost all the cars save Ferrari and the occasional Matra, etc. decades ago; the racing was pretty good back then with actual on track passing. ;)

    It will be the end of F1 just as Champ Car/CART disappeared into oblivion.

    If they want to cut costs, let teams run whomever's chassis and engine they want to buy. So the big boys can sell some of their goods and the little guys can get into F1 and learn while they develop their own derivatives.

    As long as there are teams that want to win they'll NEVER cut costs. You can keep changing the rules, it only requires more money to find other ways to get the speed back.

    I promise you the engineers will find away to get the aero downforce back eventually or find more speed some other way.

    They grooved tires to make them slower, that worked about 3 races. They banned active suspension to cut costs and speed. Did not cut and costs and they eventually found other ways to make the same principals work. They ban traction control but teams found other ways and I dare say MAC has found away to manage power into and out of a turn better maybe than Ferrrari.

    The advance of technology has what has made F1 the pinacle of motor racing. You have the best drivers in the world wanting to drive the fastest cars on the planet.

    I say, give them a box of guidelines that they have to work in and let them run what the brung. Its only money.

    Simply ban sponsorship as I've said for years now, will bring costs down drastically but leave the core of the sport alone. We will have racing for racings sake again!!!

    Sponsorship caused people like Bernie and Max (and many team owners) to think they can become mega rich via F1, and thus the sport attracted *****heads instead of people with oil in their veins.

    Sponsorship also bough along a whole lot of things that simply cost money, ie: parties, team PR people to attract more, grid girl type rubbish and general too many overhead activities.

    Yes the sport will suffer massively, but once they have got over the pay cuts, Ferrari will still be racing and so will teams like McLaren, Renault and Williams. Testing miles will be massively reduced because they now have to fund it themselves. Heck we may see them fix engines on the not so clean garage floor again :). Progress will slow, but it will still happen ... unlike a spec series which Max proposes.

    The worse thing Colin Chapman ever did for motorsport is considered his greatest impact on the sport ... he would be upset to see the loss of focus and fluffy show that F1 has become - because of this.

    just limit testing...why make it so hard. Per the Wiliams team, testing costs $1,000 per kilomoeter (that figure is two years old btw); if they cut testing by 10,000 km; that's $10m alone....

    Ferrari & McLaren stay home for '09.
    Let the poor backmarkers have a day of it.
    We'll see how much Bernie and Max are able to extort from race venues and the media then.

    The way the world economy has taken a quick turn in the other direction. It may be Bernie and Max that go begging for anyone to host a race soon. Or all the races will be in the rich middle east and China.

    Unfortunately, there are too many other countries trying to replace the old tracks in Europe. However, with Oil prices dropping, I wonder how much the Russians or the Middle East is willing to pay Bernie going forward.

    I think a lot of the places Bernie is looking to take F1 to may turn around very quick and say thanks-but-no-thanks. Places like India, Russia, etc.

    When your stock market crashes and is frozen, and your billionaires have lost up to 80% and more of their net worth, it becomes a lot harder to fork over $50mm just to get the right to spend tens of millions more on a race. The short list of guys and governments willing to front that kind of coin has gotten a whooooole lot shorter in recent weeks.
