Beginner Camera Buying

I want to know more about the FUJIFILM FinePix S700 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830122153)

It's re certified with a 90 day warranty, and its fairly cheap. I think the only negative thing is it has 7.1 mega pixels.

Has anyone had/used this camera, how'd you like it, and was it quality photos.
If anyone can help me, I'm looking for a cheap camera, that takes some fairly decent pictures.

 

I've never used one personally, but I've always been impressed with the quality of Fuji S Series, so I think you'll be fine. The only negative thoughts I've had with this series is that they only take XD card, but now do they take SD card (according to the ad you posted)?

 

I have an older Fuji (about 6 years old now) and It's never broken down on me. Great picture quality. I believe it was one of the first 6mps of the time. XDs will be read by most card readers so I don't really see it as a downside.

 

Megapixels mean nothing unless your going to be blowing up prints the size of your bedroom wall. Anything over 6MP is more than enough for editing ans posting online, I even made some 20x30 prints with my 6MP D40 and they look great until you get to about 1 ft away and they still look ok.

 

Thanks to all, I never knew about the mega pixels meaning so little. I want to start attending cars and coffee here in Phoenix, so this will probably be my motivation to attend.

Canon PowerShot A590, 4X zoom, for $119.00

Is 4X zoom enough, I don't really know how much zoom will be used, and used for.
This one is not refurbised, so I have a better chance of getting a complete camera.
Anyone use this camera before, any recommendations, any pros/cons?

I started a thread a few up from here partly for the same reasons (C&C) except I am looking at Nikons.

 

I would read through this, http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm , very very helpful. I am always going to recommend the D40 as the perfect beginner camera, even though I went to Canon. Its relatively cheap, you can do incredible things with it and it has all the features of a DSLR which will help you move into your next camera.

 

I own one. It takes high quality photos, but darn, it is so slow. I stopped using it after 11 months, and bought a Nikon D80. I highly recommend a circular polarizing filter for it, the colors are not fantastic. It is very comfortable to hold, and it has all the controls you would expect from a P+S. If you plan on shooting anything moving, this isn't for you.

I used the Canon Rebel XTi before, I really like the feel, and the pictures came out superb! I guess once I earn some more money, I will consider buying one, for now, I just wanted something small(read:cheap), and just to keep around just for randomness . I looked at the "baby brother" to the XTi, cannot remember what the camera was called at the moment, but it was the competitor to the D40. Well, I guess it's time to do some work before I screw myself over and cannot earn money for the Ferrari and Camera.

 

Exactly why I dropped my D40 and got a Canon 40D, I was tired of having to go up the saturation in every single one of my pictures.
