#3171 & #1415 - prod. 80. Not sure where clear lenses came from - I have both flutted & clear & have to say the night vision with the clear is excellent - so I'm leaving them on - original or not I do have a bit of a thing about seeing where I'm driving at night. Car delivered 41 years ago this week through Parisian consessionaire. Can't believe this car is starting it's 42nd year. Bax.
I thought I would share these old photos I took at the BJ auction; I believe they are from 1976. Looking at the photos I was surprised at the terrible condition of the cars. It is also eye opening to think these cars were only 8 to 9 years old. They had a hard 9 years and I can not imagine going to car auction today to look at cars from approximately 1999 -2000. One interesting detail is the fuel line. It is fully exposed because the air cleaner is backwards which results in a view of what is probably an original fuel line. Any guesses on the VIN number? The first one appears to have a wood steering wheel so it is one of the early cars. The second one has a chrome finish around the side windows suggesting it is an S but I through they changed the badge on the S. It appears to be two different cars to me. The car in the engine-bonnet-open pic seems to be wearing wide rears with white letters and the blue car does not...
Yes, these pictures are of different cars. They were taken when BJ was at the Starbust Hotel on Scottsdale Rd, which I believe was their first venue. It was only held there for two to three years before they moved to other locations. The cars and auction tent were actually in a dirt lot just north of the hotel.
In a sign of current times I suppose, I just noticed that Miura SV 4080, which was for sale at $1.1 million recently, is now listed at $875K. I wonder where the bottom will be? Alberto
Bax: Do you know if the clear lenses on the Paris delivered car are original? If so, it would seem that the German/Swiss clear lens theory is incorrect. Cool, one more mistery to decipher. Thanks.
I can't testify if either were correct for a car delivered in France in 1967 - wouldn't yellow lenses be correct for the French domestic market at that time - the French used these unique coloured headlights from 1940 through to sometime in the late '80s. What I can testify to is that with fluted lenses it is difficult to see too well at night - a known miura shortcoming - and with clear lenses the night illumination is very good indeed - better than my daily driver which is a 1975 BMW and itself by no means a poor example of lighting technology almost 10 years after the miura first hit the road. Don't rewrite miura history on the back of what I suspect is a later modification to this particular car - albeit a very worthwhile one IMHO. Bax.
H4 headlamps came out in 1971, these were the first two filament halogen lamps. The previously used R2 dual filament lamps were tungsten. I'm betting that the lighting problem in the Miura is like most other cars and that is voltage drop. The R2 tungsten bulbs can be upgraded see here (H4 halogen bulbs on P45t base) http://www.danielsternlighting.com/products/products.html The wiring here http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/relays/relays.html
I have heard some claim it was used on a running prototype car. Im waiting to see definitive proof of that...

2 Miuras at Auto e Moto d' Epoca, Padova, Italy 2008. Certainly one of the bests angles for the car. Philippe S2 7987 www.lamborghinimiura.com Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is mine. The photographer used a slow shutter speed and in fact I was only rolling by at 3mph! Looks like I was going FAST... Image Unavailable, Please Login
There was another one as well at Padova this past weekend (24-26 October 2008). The blue one at COYS auction. See photos here.
