Have you seen this one? It's got to be just about the worst idea they could think of for entertainment on the Speed Channel. They present teams of professional "long drive" golfers and Nascar drivers trying to hit balls as far as they can. I happened across this show last night while flipping channels. It's an HOUR show! So these guys are whacking balls, at night, in the rain, and more than half of the shots go out of bounds! When someone hits a good one, they whoop and holler and give out manly "high fives". The lighting on the course isn't good enough to show the balls in flight all the way from tee to target, so you get long shots of darkness. Yup, the ball is up there somewhere! What's next, long-distance spitting?

Isn't the Speed Channel about cars? What does golf have to do with cars?

I hope your kidding about this being a real show, but I know you're not. Television has devolved to the absolute lowest common denominator. Embarrassing for society as a whole, isn't it? I ordered an old VHS tape yesterday of Steve Allen's PBS show called "Meeting of Minds". An educational, thought provoking show that had actors portraying great figures in history coming together for discussion; The first one has Theodore Roosevelt, Cleopatra, Thomas Aquinas and Thomas Paine sitting down at the same table together. These shows were on 30 years ago, and Allen was named the greatest TV writer of the year for at least one year. Now you can hardly even find a copy of the shows on VHS, let alone DVD.
Devolution.....devolution at an ever increasing pace.....the flushing sound is getting louder as society swirls in the giant toilet bowl of mediocrity.

Oh, I forgot to mention the full title of the entertaining "speed related" program. It's:

"BIG SHOTS: TITANS AT THE TEE."

Now, I have no doubt that it takes some skill and strength to hit a golf ball really, really far. And it might make an amusing time filler, for one or two minutes, during a full-course caution. But as a 60 minute show of its own, you'll dislocate your jaw with the yawns it induces.

saw it as i was surfing. glad i didn't linger. when you think of the hours of great things speed has shown you'd think they'd just rerun something good instead of mindless crap just to fill out the schedule.
