What do you guys think of this one? http://www.ferrarichat.com/ferrariads/showproduct.php?product=1981&cat=4 David
I don't know what this info tells you but, he had it for sale in September of 2006 for $44k with 9,000 miles
The price seems a little high to me. I've been trying to decide what to ask for mine--I hope he gets it.
He had it on ebay just a couple weeks ago... didn't meet reserve at $19,700... ended on the 15th of October. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=360095343635
I find 412s really ugly for some reason. The painted front and rear bumpers, the horrible wheels, the trunkline. Is it just me? Makes the car look dumpy or something. Maybe they present better in person or something. Then again, I love the white front lenses and the orange backed gauges.
Really ugly Brian? The few cosmetic changes that were made was considered more like 'subtle'. It was always touted that the 412 was the best looking variant of all in the 400 line from what I've read. However, I feel that the flat-faced 5 spoke wheels took the aggresssiveness that existed in the concave version. I personally like the 400 over the 412 w/black bumpers & colored lenses, & have always wondered what a Boxer trim paint would look like on the 400 (as was done on the 308 GT4 as well). The 412's chin spoiler was painted matte black which I think should have appeared on the 400 to bring continuity with the black rocker panels. The raised trunk line (for 'supposed' better high speed stability) opened up the gap between the trunk lip & taillights which loosened the tightness that existed in the 308 & Boxer models, a downgrade for sure. And the raised trunkline plus the bulkiness of the lower quarterpanel fascia (I guess to disguise the silencers) gives it that dumpiness you mentioned. I raised my rear 1" by adjusting the self-leveling valve to improve its stance (small Koni mounted to the center of the rear swaybar), and though I haven't ran mine @ top speed, it was plenty stable for me @ 140. After a few minutes of cruising at that speed, the pegs on my dials 'finally' settled down (as shown in my thread "What's wrong with this picture?"). I can't wait to drift the car @ that speed, they have a confidently mild understeer to them that makes you want to do it again & again. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm selling the car for my client. He is a fanatic of a stickler. Everything works on this car. It is pristine and needs nothing. It is obviously priced at the upper end of the scale but the miles are very low and the condition is super. I'd be happy to discuss it further with any interested party. Call me at 630 567-0066. Thanks for noticing it. Ron www.ronsusser.com
I agree. I like the painted bumpers. Looks cleaner and more modern. Also, the larger trunk (and lower rear fender line behind the rear wheels) looks better. I like 400's, but I think the very thin rear trunk viewed from behind looks a little disproportionably narrow.
In Canada (Toronto) last year there was a 1986 412 from the south of France with around 25,000 miles. Mint mint mint. Sill plates, leather, gauges, metal, crackle, underhood, everything perfect including the smell. Originally asking $69K Cdn (smoking Tylenol), eventually below fifty thou and sold. My opinion is that the asking here is on the high side, and remember, 10,000 miles is not necessarily a badge of perfection as much as "never really used". How old are the rubber bits? All the Mike Sheehan precautions belong here, because the engine is worth more than the body. I was at Gstaad last December and purchased a lot of manuals and handbooks for the 400 and 412, and don't have a use for them at present. I went after a 50,000 miler last year in Oregon, asking $22,500, and another in Pennsylvania for $24,500 (400i's). I love the car; very stately; mature; stolid. I prefer the 400 for looks though. Good luck to all.... Bibendum.
the Chiaro/Crema Marseille 412 belong to a good friend. he bought that car sight unseen after a three year search, during which he flew to Atalanta, San Fran. and Halifax to view other cars only to find out that they did not meet his expectations. after the car landed he brought it to us during our early days to test drive and make right. we did his power steering pump, an ignition overhaul, power mirror replacement and a bunch after weather stripping, etc.he then took it to a well known, super high end upholsteror up here to correct some interior items and thereby make it perfect. on an 'all the money' note, his ex-400 is my current 400. he bought my current car for $76 000 in 1989. over the two years that followed he spent $ 80 000 doing a mechanical restoration (complete motor, everything) at the Dealer, bare metal paintwork (w/colour change) also through the dealer, and a complete new interior at the same shop mentioned above. he had traded a 250 GTE to get it and then traded it later on a TR, which was $300k Can at the time ('94). he told me he was happily into his 400 for over $160K...funny how perspectives change over time. he traded the 412 on a 930 slant after a year. he felt, as did i, that the 412 just lacked the soul of a 400. unfortunately, going back to a 364GT4/400 was not an option as his wife is very sensitive to the smell of gas and with 6 carbs you are bound to get a whiff here or there.
