Greetings, I am looking for any advice you might have regarding a transmission rebuild. I have tried at least 3 trans fluids including one that had a very positive effect on a Porsche gear box. (synchros) I am pretty sure that a rebuild is called for. And so, aside from some experiential advice you might have, I am also interested to know if it would be wise to begin to deal with a particular vendor. Superformance is mentioned around here by mechanics. As careful as we are (warm up, 1st to 3rd, deliberate shifting) we still encounter the infamous grind; 2nd and 3rd gears are most problematic. We have owned the car (00474) for about 1 year. Best wishes, David
I had mine down two years ago by Algar Ferrari. Bought the parts two or three different places, where ever I could find them. Some of the bearings are very expensive, but can be had cheaper if you buy direct from skf. I don't recall which bearings do what, but you can contact UroTrash here who now owns my car and has all the receipts (including for trans parts etc) and could tell you which bearings can be purchased from skf. I also purchased some of the parts from Superformance. I remember my mechanic having some fit issues. Synchros were hard to find at the time, but I think I got them from Dennis McCann, although I'm not sure. Total bill was north of $5K, I just don't recall which neighborhood. Dave M.
David, Please go to your personal info page and fill in some of the blanks. Impossible to give advice without City, Country, Model, Year of car and Number (00474 is bad.) If problem is only 2 and 3, it is probably misadjusted. Perhaps only needs careful hands. Worth a try. John
