Has anybody here had any good or bad experiences with, say, a 1995 993-TIP? I'm guessing that this was one of the first years that Porsche had a TIP, and I'm wondering if they had any initial teething problems.

I have a friend who has a 1997 Targa with Tip. These are four speeds - and they start out in second IIRC unless you specifically select first. That makes them pretty slow off the line. There is a torque converter lockup clutch so they are pretty efficient at highway speed, but are geared a little lower than the 6 speed in top.

I have never heard of them giving much concern mechanically - at least you won't have to replace a clutch at about 80K miles like a manual.

Having said this, I have never understood why anybody would buy one of these in a classic (last version) air cooled 911!
