Hey guys, I bought my 355 a couple months ago from a local guy who lives and works in Chantilly. He is a career mechanic who owned the car from the day it rolled out of the factory and did all the work on it himself. He just changed my clutch out, and we while were talking, I started thinking that I should post some good publicity for him.

He'll absolutely crush any combined Ferrari dealer parts and labor quote (He can get dealer cost prices on parts) or probably even any exotic shop quote on any kind of work that doesn't require major or engine out service. He'd be great for clutches, exhausts, brakes, suspension, etc. He's even good with redoing interiors, custom audio, alarms, etc. Aside from his Ferrari, which is now mine, he's worked on AMG's, high line Beemers, sport bikes ( He has all 3 of those right now) and various exotic cars, so he has a good base of experience and a track record. In case you are wondering, he didn't afford all those cars on his mechanic's wages, he had some other investments and familymoney as well. Anway, he does work on the side but works at Lexus now, and if you're local to NOVA, I'd definitely reccomend looking into him. He offered to give me a commission on referrals, but I told him I don't want it for just giving my honest opinion. I'm speaking objectively when I say, if you're not a Stooge or a gear head, then this guy is a great alternative to FOW or a local exotic shop. Good work, cheap price, honest, fair and he takes pride in what he does.

His name is Jutley and he said it was okay to post him number, or you can message me if you have any questions. I'm going to him for anythign and everything except my engine out, although he may tackle that as well. I'm a few years away from 30,000, so I'm not worried about that right now but he will be doing my Tubi next year and anything else I decide to pony up for.

Jutley - 703.856.3579. Just tell him you saw a post from Ryan, the guy who bought his 355.

    Ryan,

I actually ran into Jutley a few months back in Arlington when he was driving your yellow 355. (Keep in mind, he owned it at the time) I actually gave him a call last night regarding some issues I've been having with my clutch. We chatted a while, but thanks again for passing along the info.

Thanks, Ryan... I will keep this info handy, if I am able to get my Ferrari in 2009. (planning for a 360, hoping for at least an F355) :)

    :)

Well, I will try to get the best I can afford at the time. Planning to get another home in 2009 (our 3rd home), so that has more importance than my choice of getting a Ferrari.

Until then, I will have to enjoy my lowly SLK.. :D

    I like the 348, F355, 360 and F430 on different levels... :D

sshh... Lexus haters might avoid him... ;)

And then passing the 2 cops on the side of the road merely 5 seconds after that photo was taken.

    That was a nice Lexus.

back to our regularly scheduled program. When you say this guy does the work on the side, does that mean at the dealer where he works? Or does he jack up your ferrari in his driveway? Does he work on any models besides the 355 and 360? has he ever worked on any ferraris besides his 355? What types of insurance does he carry? For example, does he have a workmans comp policy? or does he just sue you if he hurts himself working on your car? I know these sound like trolling your thread, but i think they are real concerns for some of the guys in this forum.

He's just a cool guy who does good work for a good price. It sounds like you need a shop, then he's not right. Remeber, all that insurance and stuff is part of why they charge more. You can't have it both ways. He's no different that having your neighbor work on your car. If you guys want a blow by blow of his abilitites and experiences, feel free to call him. He can tell you whatever you want to know, just please try to have an actual job in mind, don't call him just to grill him about his qualififcations when you don't even have a specific job for him to do. That's not exactly the kind of thing he probably expected when I told him that I'd drop his name.

you really didn't answer any questions. At least tell us where he works on the cars. We aren't talking about camrys' here. Don't worry about me personally, i would never let him work on my cars. My questions are general in nature, and frankly pretty basic info.

Has he ever worked on a 355 from oklahoma?

    Just curious.

It has been my experience that you get what you pay for with Ferrari service.

I wish your friend the best.

The problem with promoting moonlighters here is that it works against sponsor shops who do business legally. The guy doing work on the cheap out of his garage is competing with folks who actually have employees, comply with all the million business related state and local licensing and similar laws, have insurance, etc, etc. It's pretty frustrating for real shops to compete with the internet guru blowhard who has a pretty website and nothing else, as well as the moonlighters.

Take a chill pill. I appreciate this thread and plan to contact this guy the next time I need service. I could care less about our sponsors or about overpaying at the dealership. The last time I had my oil changed at FOW, they charged me $120 for the oil - that's regular oil and not synthetic.
I'm a big fan of independent shops or local guys as long as they are knowledgable and know what they are doing. This guy sounds like a winner. I don't care about his 401 or insurance. That's his problem, not mine.

actually no, it is your problem. If he damages your car and does not have insurance, you are out of luck. Even if he accidentally scratches it with his belt buckle. In addition, if he injures himself working on your car, like say a back injury, without workman's comp, he can sue you. These are just a few of the pitfalls you face with a shadetree mechanic. Maybe worth it for my ford f150, but i wouldn't risk it with my ferrari. as far as overpaying at the dealership goes, i agree with you there. Professional, knowledgeable and insured service is available for probably little more than this guy charges.

    "Take a chill pill."

Let me try again. If you try to open a legitimate auto shop, you'll find the whole world pretty much hates you. Most landlords don't want auto shops. Zoning authorities generally hate them, too. Ever start any business? Ever run any business, or are you a government type? Personally guaranty your premises and equipment leases, find an accountant, bank and lawyer who will pay any attention at all to a small business, pay a huge load on wages to cover bennies and taxes, fight to have your sign approved, comply with hazardous waste disposal laws, spend hours on the phone with the credit card processors, try to get insurance (especially if you're into racing, have a dyno, etc.), get a federal trademark for your logo (takes a year), get a proper website up and running (you want e-commerce with that?) ... I could go on forever, I'm not even scratching the surface.

So, no chill pill for me, I have too many friends who run race and independent shops, and dealerships, who try their best to comply with all the bs laws and regulations to which they're subject. The guy who works out of his garage, I hope he gets shut down. Or - much better, but won't ever happen - really do something to lessen regulations on business. Promoting moonlighters here hurts sponsors.

don't forget that the real shops and dealerships watch this website to. They know who you are. I wouldn't want to be the guy that's saying how they want to get by on the cheap when they have to roll into one of these shops with a real problem. specially one caused by a shade tree mechanic. Can you say "bend over"?
