This just in: The all new Palm Beach Driving Club at Palm Beach International Raceway (formerly Moroso) is now sponsoring our Friday lunch! All paid registrants coming out on Friday will receive a free lunch courtesy of Palm Beach Driving Club. Anyone who’s already registered for Friday’s lunch will receive a full refund for that meal. As a reminder, Saturday’s lunch is also free for all paid registrants courtesy of Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale. 2 meals, our famous event T-shirt, AND a custom Maranello Madness ceramic mug ALL for the price of a $35 registration has got to be the bargain of the century! This is complete Madness! Track car or not, you’d be nuts not to at least come out to the track, register, and enjoy a day of spectating at this completely brand new facility. **Important to note** Registration closes very soon, so register now! In-person registration is also available at the track Friday and Saturday mornings. **Also** For the first time, the track (not the FCA) will be out front charging an admission of $15 per person for all people unaccompanied by an FCA member. If you’re registered - no problem, if you’re bring your family or friends - no problem. They are just looking to keep non-FCA spectating to a minimum. Maybe bring your membership card or a recent club mailing with your name on it just in case. Don’t forget to sign up for Friday night’s banquet at The Jupiter Beach Resort, and also stay at the track for our Saturday night track-side BBQ blast.

So do I understand correctly that as a non member of FCA I'm not welcome as a spectator?

No, I think you are welcome to come watch, although I believe there's an entrance fee to get into PB International speedway (FKA Moroso).

I wouldn't say that at all; that sounds harsh. Maybe FerrariBob will chime in.

put the $15 entrance fee towards the club membership. if you own a Ferrari, why wouldn't someone want to join?

Membership Card? I've been a member for about 20 years and never saw one. Asked what my membership number was once and never got a reply. How do you get a card?

The gate workers will have a list of names of every person who has registered for Maranello Madness by Monday, November 3rd. Registration via fax and online closes Monday, Nov. 3rd. Anyone who presents a current FCA membeship card should not be charged. Anyone who has NOT registered or is NOT a friend or relative of a registered participant, will be charged $15 by Palm Beach International Speedway (not by the FCA). People can still register at the event on Nov. 7th & 8th, but this may not prevent the track from charging an entrance fee to those people.

since you (FCA) is renting the track it is not the PBIS that makes the decision to charge spectators but it is the FCA that sets this standard.

Too bad. Just as it is too bad t have certain 'uncertain' standards as to what cars are allowed to drive at the events. Each year you have long standing members tht want to track their other car but are shut down only to find the president of the club bringing japanese junk to track.

I would register if I can bring the Spec Miata. I understand the hesitation of letting me register that. After all I would be passing people in their Ferraris and that is just unacceptable :)
So if anything changes, I am up for a day in the SM. Let me know.

    Martin,

You are 100% wrong. It is in our multi-page cotract (drawn up by PBIS) that PBIS has the right to charge an entrance fee. Here is the relevant text copied directly from our contract:

    8. Sponsorships, Concessions and Ticket Sales.

    (c) Tickets. MMP has the express written permission by way of this agreement to
charge admission to spectators only and will supply all spectator insurance and
gate staffing as MMP deems appropriate. MMP will collect all spectator monies
with 100% of the proceeds going to MMP.

I am at a loss as to why you would make such a bold charge against the club given that you have no knowledge of our contractual obligations? Did you not get enough Halloween "treats" last night and you're venting your disappointment at our expense? :D

I understand your opinion. However, there is a certain level of objective discretion that comes into play. We continue to allow "cars of interest" other than Ferraris at our track events. This year we have a super Ford GT and a Nissan R35 GTR coming - again this is part of the objective decision of what constitutes a "car of interest" to our members. Unfortunately our Regional Director doesn't believe that the Spec Miata would qualify unless it has some special race history or other way to make it out of the ordinary. This decision is based on a case by case basis and depending on the number of non-Ferraris that are participating. The primary purpose of this restriction is to keep the event more exclusive than Chin, NASA or SAFE type events.

Oh...by the way...the only people you'd be passing in their Ferraris would be those parked in the paddock...:D

Doesn't the fact that Martin races this particular Spec Miata qualify it as having a special race history?

As a FCA Florida Region member, I vote to let him & his car join us.

Well having rented Moroso for private track myself I am somewhat familiar with their contracts. Granted not with the new one under their new management.
My understanding is that you can also ask or have the contract revised to reflect that this does not happen. I certainly have revised their contract for a simple 3 car track day and I am sure so could the FCA.

BTW no disappointment on your expense, simply on the way things are handled for years now. While under the care of Jay there was a great sign of hope for change but that has given way to the old ways.

There are some very dedicated people working for the FCA FL. You and a bunch of others. Take my critisismn and the one of other people not to get defensive but to look for how to make others feel welcome.

    Bob:
the person that wrote that (and I know it was not you) is actually the one that never comes wth the Ferrari to play. Something I hear a lot of people complain about.
I realize that there are those that think bringing another car of 'interest' (to them) may be okay but where do you draw the line? A Nissan GTR? Dime a Dozend. Heck I sold 10 so far.
My suggestion would be to stop ALL cars that are not Ferrari powered to be allowed at the track. Period. That is clear and consistent. Further the decision of what is of interest is not by the members but by the one person that break that rule everytime. So that argument does not fly. :)

    Again Bob:
you are doing an outstanding job. I have always admired your efforts and Dave's in getting this club going. Make it better.
