Clutch Problem

    Took my 79 308 for a ride today and the clutch felt very grabby.. Rode around for a while and then it started to slip when accererated. Never had a problem till now. I guess it is time for a new clutch. Car has 40k on it so I assume it is the original clutch. What is the opinion out there? If I need to replace the clutch how difficult is it? What tools are needed and is it a project I can do myself? What brand of clutch is good for normal driving? It is fall here in Northwest Jersey so I have all winter to do this project. Advice? Suggestions? Buy the way it was a great day for a ride it the 308!!!!

    I have never done it myself but I am told 308 is the easiest car in the world to swap out the clutch. Looking at the configuration Trans engine side by side it should be easy, you don't have to pull the engine or the trans.

    I was driving my car this morning and clutch seemed a little grabby. Switched cars with a friend for a whils, I drove his NSX. When I got back in the Ferrari clutch seemed like a mack truck. I suppose I should lubricate the mechanism...any pointers on that?

    i think a 3x8 feels like a mack truck clutch with or without greasing the parts.
    it's a men's car i guess :)

    Sounds like the clutch to me.. I bought my clutch from TRutlands... Its a factory clutch and the price was great. Don't recommend a remanufactured clutch.. I always here bad things.. If your going to open the clutch housing plan to buy the release bearing and I would replace all the rubber seals a gaskets. Seals and gaskets are usually cheap.. Not for nothing Jim at Pocono Sportscar did my clutch and was super reasonable with the labor end of the job. It was worth it.. He also adjusted the shift linkage and bled the system. It was a great experience without the major price tag. You may want to give him a call for shi*ts and giggles. Hopes this helps

    bled the system? i thought the clutch was a conle type one?

    Maybe he just CHARGED for bleeding the system... ;)

    Sorry.. i have a 90TR and I was just trying to share some info.. I have no clue about the clutch set up in a 308 or mondial. In the TR its a must when changing the clutch. Clutch and brakes run off the same tank,

    Sorry for the mix up...

    Adjust the pedal and clutch linkage, maybe? The correct settings are in your owners manual and a search here should find a walk through on the procedure. Looks pretty straight forward in the manual.
